How long do Clearing decisions take?

We can make you a verbal offer instantly on the telephone in most cases during clearing. You will receive your offer email from us following your verbal offer on the same day. Exceptions to this will be applications for advanced entry, international applicants, courses that require an interview at a later date or portfolio submission, and queries regarding qualifications or previous study with us.

I have been given a University Clearing offer from UON and I wish to accept. However, my Firm choice institution will not release me. What should I do?

If you no longer want to go to your firm university choice, and you’re holding a firm unconditional place, you can use the ‘decline my place’ button on your application in UCAS Hub. This will release you into Clearing. This is available until 3 September 2025.

I have been given a Clearing offer from the University of Northampton; how do I accept?

If you are already in UCAS, you need to go on UCAS Hub to accept our offer and ‘Add a clearing choice’ under Your Courses and enter the details of the course as your Clearing Choice, specifying N38 as the University/college name and entering the code for the course we have offered; then selecting the Add Choice button. This facility is available from 1pm on Results Day (14 August 2025) and from 10am for Scottish applicants on Results Day (5 August 2025). (Early clearing applicants can accept offers between 10am on 5 August and 12pm on 8 August 2025).

If you are NOT in UCAS you will receive an offer email from us with a link to an online Record of Prior Acceptance (RPA) form for you to complete and submit. We will check your documents and confirm your place with UCAS, and you will receive an official letter from UCAS and an email from the University of Northampton about accommodation, module choice and DBS/Occupational Health (as appropriate).

I have been told I need to refer myself to you, what does this mean?

If you would like to accept our university Clearing offer, you need to go on to UCAS Hub to ‘Add a clearing choice’ under Your Courses and enter the details of the course as your Clearing Choice, specifying N38 as the University/college name and entering the code for the course we have offered; then selecting the Add Choice button. This facility is available from 1pm on Results Day (14 August 2025) and from 10am fir Scottish applicants on Results Day (5 August 2025). What happens after I’ve received a verbal offer in Clearing?

You need to submit any qualifications/certificates/forms as requested to your Applicant Portal once you have received access details. We will confirm your place with UCAS, and you will receive an official letter from UCAS and an email from the University of Northampton about accommodation, module choice and DBS/Occupational Health (as appropriate).

If you are NOT in UCAS  you will receive an offer email from us with a link to an online Record of Prior Acceptance (RPA) form for you to complete and submit. You will also need to submit copies of any qualifications stated when you made your clearing application. We will check your documents and confirm your place with UCAS, and you will receive an official letter from UCAS and an email from the University of Northampton about accommodation, module choice and DBS/Occupational Health (as appropriate).

When will I receive confirmation of my offer in Clearing?

Where do I send my qualifications and certificates?

You can email clearing@northampton.ac.uk with a copy of your documents. Once you have received an offer from us and received details of your Applicant Portal, you can upload documents that we need to see here. Please note that some courses require evidence of original certificates. Visit the New Students webpage at to see which documents we need to see before you start.

Can I stay in private student accommodation?

We can find suitable private rental properties if you would prefer this to Halls. Further details can be found on our Accommodation pages.

How do I apply for accommodation during clearing?

You can apply for accommodation once you have placed yourself in UCAS and been accepted by us through clearing.

Please note that there are limited spaces in Halls.

What accommodation do you have?

We have single and twin rooms with shared bathrooms or en-suites. The rooms are all equipped with network access and WiFi, as well as 24-hour security and a dedicated support team. Please note that there are limited spaces in Halls. The earlier you accept our offer the better your chance of securing a place in Halls is. We can also find suitable private rental properties if you would prefer.

When will I be sent information about accommodation?

You can apply for accommodation once you have placed yourself in UCAS and been accepted by us.

Guaranteed Accommodation

At UON, we can guarantee a room in our Halls of Residence for all Clearing applicants* starting with us in September 2025 who apply and accept their room offer by the date provided in their accommodation offer. We’re also proud to be in the top 20 for most affordable student accommodation in the UK.

No Deposit Required

We recognise the significant challenges families are facing due to the rising cost of living, and we won’t be asking students joining us in September 2025 to pay an upfront accommodation deposit when reserving a place in our Halls of Residence.

Can I apply early if I achieved my results last year?

From 5 July you can use Clearing if: you already have your exam results but you have no offers OR you didn’t receive any offers or none that you wanted to accept OR you didn’t meet the conditions of your offers OR you’ve declined your firm place using the ‘decline my place’ button in UCAS Hub. You can also apply to us if you haven’t made any applications this year.

I haven’t applied through UCAS this year, how do I apply?

If you have not applied through UCAS this academic year you can apply directly to us by calling 01604 214808. We’ll review your application and if suitable you will receive an offer email from us with a link to an online application form (Record of Prior Acceptance – RPA) for you to complete, which we will submit to UCAS. You can only make one RPA application, if you have already submitted one to another University we will not be permitted to process. Applying through RPA means that you are restricted to a single application, are not able to consider other providers and are not able to use Clearing or Adjustment.

What is a Record of Prior Acceptance (RPA)?

Can I swap my firm and insurance choices now I have my final results?

No, but if you want to go to your insurance choice, you need to go through university Clearing. Please check with your insurance choice university before releasing into Clearing.

I don’t want my firm choice; can I use Clearing?

Yes, if you change your mind and no longer want to go to your firm choice you can go through Clearing.

• If you’re holding a unconditional firm place, you can use the ‘decline my place’ button in UCAS Hub. This is available from 5 July.
• If you’re holding a conditional firm place, you can be released into clearing but will need to speak to both your current firm choice and then UCAS directly first to do this. You will not be able to do this until 1pm on Thursday 14 August.

Please ensure you have secured a clearing offer before you release yourself from a firm place, Please note that if you decline your place with us, we cannot guarantee you a place if you change your mind as some courses have restricted numbers and could be full.

I have been offered a place on one UON course, can I be considered for another?

If you want to swap your course with us, please email admissions@northampton.ac.uk including your UCAS ID number and the course change required. Please use email subject line ‘Request for course change’. Please note acceptance on a different course will depend on entry requirements and places available for the requested course. An interview may also be required.

How much does Clearing cost?

The UCAS application fee is £28.50.

How will I know I’m in Clearing?

You will know you are in Clearing if your  UCAS Hub application status bar states ‘In Clearing’ or ‘Clearing has started’ or ‘Place Confirmed’.

If you’re eligible for Clearing, your Clearing number (six digits) will be on your application status of  UCAS Hub. You will also have a UCAS Personal ID number (ten digits). Each University has a unique code, the University of Northampton is N38.

What time does Clearing open on results day?

Our Clearing Phone line 01604 214808 is open 9am-5pm Monday-Thursday and 9am-4.30pm Friday from June to October and for extended hours on the following dates:

• Thursday 14 August 8am–8pm
• Friday 15 August 8am–7pm
• Saturday 16 August 9am–4pm

I don’t have a Clearing number yet

If UCAS Hub doesn’t say ‘In Clearing’ or ‘Clearing has started’ it might just be waiting for your results to update. Get in touch with us anyway by telephoning 01604 214808.

What courses are usually in Clearing?

Most courses are available to apply for in Clearing except for a few number-controlled professional health and education programmes. Please telephone our Clearing Phone line 01604 214808 and one of our advisors will be able to help you.

Can I apply directly onto the 2nd or 3rd year?

If you have completed academic study that is equivalent to the first or second year of the course you are applying for, it may be possible to enter the course at the second or third year. You will need to provide relevant certificates, transcripts, module specifications, placement hours (for professional courses) and a list of modules including how many credits they are worth.

How can I decline my university place before swapping in clearing?

From 5 July if you are holding a firm unconditional place, you can release yourself into Clearing, by using the ‘decline your place’ button in UCAS Hub. Please make sure you speak to the University of your new choice  before  declining your place. Please note that if you decline your place with us, we cannot guarantee you a place if you change your mind as some courses have restricted numbers and could be full.

If you’re holding a conditional firm place, you will have to wait for your university to update your offer to either unconditional or unsuccessful.

I have been given a Clearing offer from Northampton; how do I decline?

Email admissions@northampton.ac.uk  stating the reason you wish to decline, your UCAS ID number and the course you are holding an offer for. Please use email subject line ‘Decline my Place’. From 5 July if you are holding a firm unconditional place, you can release yourself into Clearing, by using the ‘decline your place’ button in UCAS Hub. Please make sure you speak to the University of your new choice before declining your place.

If you’re holding a conditional firm place, you will have to wait for us to update your offer to either unconditional or unsuccessful.

I have referred myself through UCAS Hub, however I have changed my mind and now wish to be released. What should I do?

You can self-release by using the ‘decline your place’ button in UCAS Hub. Please remember that spaces may not be available elsewhere.

Can I defer a clearing offer and if so, how do I do this?

If you are applying for deferral to September 2026 you need to meet any offer conditions by 3 September 2025 unless you agree something else with us.

Please email admissions@northampton.ac.uk  including your UCAS ID number and the course you wish to defer. Please use email subject line ‘Request for deferral’. Please note that not all courses allow deferrals.

What is Extra?

If you received decisions from all five universities and were not accepted, or you declined the offers you received, you can add another choice through UCAS Extra Service. You can apply to one course at a time through clearing between 26 February to 4 July. If Extra is available to you, it will show up as a button when you sign in to UCAS.

What do I do about Student Finance?

You need to let the Student Loan Company know of any changes to your situation, for example a change of university and course, to ensure your tuition fees and maintenance loan are covered. Student Finance have a help page

What happens after I have applied through 2025 UCAS clearing?

Depending on the status of your UCAS clearing application, you can utilise this time by considering the essential tasks you would need to tackle before starting your course. These include:

• Getting financial support and help
• Sorting out student accommodation
• Building your current skill set through additional courses
• You’ll receive an offer email from us*
• You need to accept our offer in UCAS Hub, specifying N38 as the institution and entering the code for the course we have offered*
• You need to submit any qualifications, certificates, forms as requested
• We will confirm your place with UCAS, and you will receive an official letter from UCAS
• You’ll receive an email from us about booking accommodation, DBS and occupational health as appropriate
• You should check the ‘Before you start checklist’ on the new students website for details of what you need to do and what we need to see before you arrive

* If you’re not in UCAS, we’ll send you a short online form for you to complete and we will submit your application to UCAS.

When will I receive Enrolment, Welcome and Induction information?

Once you have accepted our offer you will start to receive emails about accommodation, getting started, the new students website, welcome packs, how to complete online enrolment, when to attend face-to-face enrolment, welcome and induction programme, students union, your personal tutor and DBS/Occupational Health (if appropriate). Last date to enrol is 20 October 2025 but students are strongly advised to enrol over welcome weekend 20-21 September 2025.
