BSc Digital Business, is a direct response to the requirements from industry, where there is a shortage of graduates with skills aligned to the ever-increasing opportunities in digital businesses. Such opportunities are created as a result of the transformation of traditional businesses to digital businesses, and the emergence of numerous start-ups with a strong digital focus and business model.

Course Content

  • You will be introduced to the digital business environment and have the opportunity to investigate different aspects of a digital business. You will develop skills related to some of the business functions in a digital business model e.g. digital marketing and digital financial accounting.

    You will gain skills and expertise in understanding key business concepts applied within a digital environment. You will study some of the emerging topics such as blockchains and FinTech.

    The programme includes a strong emphasis on information systems analysis and management which are the underlying areas for designing and running a digital business. You will become familiar with the holistic supply chain of a digital business model. The ethical and legal issues, and cyber security management are other areas that you will explore.

    The programme focuses on three themes which will run across the three years of study:

    1- Information management, e-commerce, e-supply chain, and information systems strategy
    2- Digital marketing, content creation, insights and entrepreneurship in a digital business context
    3- Digital financial reporting and accounting for a digital business.

    Risk and cyber security management, people management in a digital environment, emerging technologies, and project management are other topics that will holistically run across the programme and will provide the other necessary skills for a graduate of Digital Business.

        This module provides an appreciation of the fundamental key terms and concepts of finance and accounting. Students will gain an understanding of the accounting and finance information requirements necessary for a successful business organisation with the emphasis on the digitalised systems that aid the process.

        This module explores the interconnectedness between technology and business processes within organisations. The module focuses on the different types of digital business models and e-commerce systems that support building core competencies and providing a competitive advantage whilst considering issues present in the global digital environment.

        This module is aimed to provide students with the ability to understand how information systems can be used as part of an organisation's overall strategy. Students will be introduced to a range of business and system analysis techniques that can help with the organisation's digital transformation.

        This module introduces the fundamental theories and techniques for assessing business and/or the industry environment taking into account the different stakeholders and methods of interaction. Students will also have the opportunity to explore the changing business processes in order to add value to the business and its customers.

        This module aims to provide students with contemporary business understanding focusing on challenges and opportunities organisations face in the global environment. In particular the module examines issues related to business strategy and the role of information and knowledge within the digital economy.

        This module provides students with the skills and knowledge necessary to both plan and analyze digital marketing campaigns to achieve specific strategic commercial objectives within a broad range of contemporary organisations.

        This module provides the learners with the opportunity to critically and comprehensively assess risks emerging from cyber presence and the wider cyber ecosystem. Risk management as a process threats in the cyberspace and consumer trust are some of the other topics within this module.

        Emerging technologies are changing the way companies innovate and create value. A disruptive innovation creates a new market and value network and eventually disrupts an existing market displacing established market leaders their products and services. This module will explore the impact of emerging technologies on businesses.

        The purpose of this module is to focus on the development and building of professionally relevant content on a variety of platforms which will enable the student to develop skills in real time relevant marketing communications and content creation.The creation of content will be linked to relevant academic theory in communication and visual language which will underpin the student?s choices.

        To remain competitive in today's digital world businesses need to move fast. Digital Entrepreneurship module will focus on issues related to creating and doing business in the Digital Era. Main emphasis of the module is on practical aspects of digital entrepreneurship including digital entrepreneurship skills tools practices and processes.
  • You are encouraged to undertake a year-long placement in between Stages Two and Three of study. If you meet the entry criteria, and choose to take up a placement year you will find it an invaluable experience that helps you to apply your learning in your final year and prepares you for your career. We offer a lot of support in helping you to find a placement, which can be in the UK or overseas.

  • How will I learn?

    Through studying this programme, you can expect taught study to be a combination of seminars/workshops/accessing online materials usually for 12 hours per week. We recommend that you spend 24 hours per week in self-directed study time.

    How will I be assessed?

    Assessment methods vary per module. The modules involve a variety of assessment such as seminar/group and individual presentations/project work/exams/written assignment/portfolio.

  • Standard entry requirements apply to this course. A typical offer is around BCC at A Level or DMM at BTEC. You are required to achieve GCSE Mathematics at grade C/4 or above or level 2 Key Skill in Application of Number or a similar quantitative module.
