Overview


Joint Honours Economics and Business offers modules which provide the opportunity to study a range of economic topics whilst broadening your understanding of wider business issues. Economics underpins everything from world affairs and politics to wealth and poverty, national economic management and the functioning of business. The programme is delivered around a variety of core subjects and option choices. The course is flexible and you can tailor the modules around your specific interests.

We will support you to achieve your career and study ambitions, which is why if you complete our Employability Plus Gold programme or Changemaker Gold certificate alongside your studies and if you haven’t secured full-time employment 12 months after graduating* we will secure a three – six month paid internship for you, or support you into postgraduate study.

Course Content


  • This course will help develop your understanding of national contemporary economics whilst providing you with practical skills, knowledge and commercial awareness that will enhance your future employability. Upon completion of the Economics and Business Joint Honours course you will be able to progress your career in business, management, government or politics.

    This programme combines Economics and Business modules that will provide you with a key grounding in both subject areas. Economics is an interesting and varied subject area that will develop your analytical skills. The course introduces all areas of business preparing you for a future of making sound operational and strategic decisions which are important as organisations are now demanding higher levels of business related skills.

    Optional Work Placement Year

    You are encouraged to undertake a year-long placement in between Stages Two and Three of study. If you meet the entry criteria, and choose to take up a placement year you will find it an invaluable experience that helps you to apply your learning in your final year and prepares you for your career. Whilst on your Optional Work Placement Year you will study a 40 credit module ‘The Placement Year Experience – Organisations in Context’. We offer a lot of support in helping you to find a placement, which can be in the UK or overseas.

    Methods of Learning

    For this programme taught study would be a combination of lectures, seminars and workshops, usually for 12 hours per week. We recommend students spend 24 hours per week in self-directed study time

    Assessments

    A range of individual and group-based assessment methods are used. These include essays, written reports, presentations, live client projects, portfolios, research reports, presentations, multiple choice tests and examinations.

    Part Time: £1,450 per 20 credit module
