This Events Management undergraduate course offers a practical approach to the successful management of a wide range of events. Experiences are at the heart of this degree so you will get to plan and deliver an event every year. There are numerous opportunities throughout the course for you to engage in work placements, project work and to network with successful events businesses. Our links with industry provide you with opportunities to gain valuable work experience alongside your studies.

Optional Study Trips

In previous years Events Management students have participated in an optional study trip to London and an optional study trip to a European destination. The cost of the optional trip to London should not exceed £85 for travel, tours and accommodation, whilst the cost of the optional trip to Europe should not normally exceed £500 for flights and accommodation. You will need to allow an additional £100 for your expenses.

We also aim to provide a regional or national study trip annually to a venue or event. In some cases you will be required to contribute to the cost of entry; this would normally not exceed £50.

This programme offers a practical approach to the successful management of a wide range of events. Experiences are at the heart of this degree programme so you will plan and deliver an event every year. There are numerous opportunities to engage in work placements, project work and to network with successful events businesses. Throughout this course you will learn the principles and theoretical frameworks related to events management and how to apply this theory in practice. You will cover the following course themes: logistics and operations management, risk management, health and safety, strategy, finance, new media event marketing, project management, public relations, sustainability, economic and social impacts of events.

Event Managers are employed across many sectors of the economy including film, music and entertainment, exhibitions, conferences, networking and social events, events agencies, PR, sports events, tourism, charities and the public sector.

All International and EU students applying for a course with us must meet the following minimum English language requirements:

  • IELTS 6.0 (or equivalent) with a minimum of 5.5 in all bands
    for study at undergraduate level

Foundation Study Framework Entry Requirements

Admission to this foundation course is normally DEE at A Level or MPP at BTEC. However, we would also like to hear from you if you have professional or industry experience instead, a range of other qualifications or self-developed subject knowledge that relates to the course you wish to study.

At stage one you will gain a broad understanding of the core business knowledge needed in the Events industry. Logistics, marketing communications, project management and finance are the core modules that you will study.

Special Features

  • Many students choose to undertake work placements of around 4-5 months’ duration in the summer break or work on internships a couple of days each week. In between stage one and two you can complete a module which provides you with academic credit for this summer work experience.
  • We are building a student community and encouraging cross-year collaboration. Many first and second year students will volunteer to work at events that are hosted and fully organised by our final year students. We also have a Facebook page for current students and alumni.
  • We invite industry professionals to provide you with their insight and experience as guest speakers, as well as involving them in live-client projects and allowing you to present your event ideas to external clients.

Atlanta Lloyd has topped off a year’s industry placement by organising an event fit for a future king.

“It was the perfect event to finish my placement with,” said Atlanta. “Having a royal visitor was an extra challenge for me. It meant I had to plan every minute of the event and spent time working with the Palace’s close protection team to make sure everything would go smoothly.”
