This programme offers modules which provide you with a sound framework in all aspects of business. The course is flexible and you can tailor the modules around your specific interests.

Business and Business Entrepreneurship is built around an entrepreneurial stream that runs through the three stages of the course. You will gain knowledge of business start-up, business growth and development, managing opportunities, starting an online business and developing strategy.

We will support you to achieve your career and study ambitions, which is why if you complete our Employability Plus Gold programme or Changemaker Gold certificate alongside your studies* and if you haven’t secured full-time employment 12 months after graduating we will secure a three – six month paid internship for you, or support you into postgraduate study.

Optional Work Placement Year

You are encouraged to undertake a year-long placement in between Stages Two and Three of study. If you meet the entry criteria, and choose to take up a placement year you will find it an invaluable experience that helps you to apply your learning in your final year and prepares you for your career. We offer a lot of support in helping you to find a placement, which can be in the UK or overseas.

The course provides you with the practical skills, knowledge, commercial awareness and opportunities to enhance your employability and give you the confidence to develop your own business. Business and Business Entrepreneurship is practical in focus and offers opportunities to work on your own business ideas and network with entrepreneurs. Success comes not only from business knowledge but also from personal attitude. You will be actively encouraged to develop an entrepreneurial spirit and attitude.

Career Opportunities

Careers are wide and varied for graduates of this course. Some students go on to start up their own businesses soon after graduating, whilst many go into industry. Because of the in-depth coverage of accounting, marketing, and business operations, you will have developed a solid foundation for a career in general management of SMEs. The ethos of the course also encourages a creative ‘can do’ attitude welcomed by organisations of any size.

Students graduating from this Joint Honours programme can choose to progress onto a full-time, part-time or distance learning Postgraduate programme. This will enable you to focus your studies in a specialist area or gain a general management qualification such as the MBA.

Entry Requirements

English Language Requirements

All International and EU students applying for a course with us must meet the following minimum English language requirements:

  • IELTS 6.0 (or equivalent) with a minimum of 5.5 in all bands

Course Content

From a business perspective, you will be introduced to management principles and practices. You will learn about the business environment and how this operates in society. You will explore social enterprise and ways in which entrepreneurial opportunities can be identified and developed and will start to learn some of the techniques and skills required to be successful in a business environment.

Joint Honours Study

If you choose to study a Joint Honours degree at the University of Northampton you can select a programme that suits your interests and strengths. This option opens up a host of possibilities to you, offering a wide range of opportunities for careers and further study at your fingertips. In the Joint Honours programme, you will select two subjects as joint for stage one. You may continue with equal emphasis on two subjects as a joint degree in stages two and three, or switch to a major or minor split. The degree title is derived from the two subjects.
