Course Content

  • Students study six modules over one year full time, or two years if studying part time on this molecular medicine masters. You will follow subject specific and Research Methods modules and undertake a research project in your area of interest that gives an individual focus, whilst also integrating you into the Molecular Biosciences Research Group within the University’s Research Centre for Physical Activity and Life Sciences. You can find out more about the research interests and expertise of the Bioscience team on the Department of Science research profiles page.

In the Molecular Medicine module, you will study interdisciplinary approaches to understanding normal and pathological systems and processes at the molecular level, including novel treatments and drug development. In Genes and Genomics, you will gain in-depth knowledge of both molecular genetics and genomics, including bioinformatics and large data analyses with a focus upon novel technologies.

You will study a Current Topics module, which allows you to choose relevant and cutting-edge issues in molecular medicine, working independently to pursue your own interests with the support of a supervising tutor.

To improve your employability, apply your skills and build your social capital, you will also complete 150 hours of Applied Practice with an option of a work placement* or a laboratory-based module, featuring key molecular techniques and a problem based independent project, designed to increase your employability after your course.

*Securing a work placement will be supported by staff but not guaranteed.
