Overview


By understanding the legal frameworks that exists in the UK, the different elements of Law and how that applies to individuals and organisations. Our Joint Honours course helps you understand the implications in a business context. The applications of business and legal theory will further develop your understanding in preparation for real world application when they decide on a career.

We will support you to achieve your career and study ambitions, which is why if you complete our Employability Plus Gold programme or Changemaker Gold certificate alongside your studies and if you haven’t secured full-time employment 12 months after graduating* we will secure a three – six month paid internship for you, or support you into postgraduate study.

Course Content


  • You will have the opportunity to develop employability skills through volunteering, events, workshops, research and placements as well as through the development of transferable thinking skills such as the ability to critically analyse issues and situations.

    The Law modules are designed with three basic aims: to provide a sound basic legal education, to cater for the teaching of Law in its social, economic and political context and to complement other subject areas in the joint honours programme. You will gain practical experience from moots and mock trials in our dedicated Moot Room, visiting law firms and career advice. Law also offers a student mentoring scheme with Shoosmiths solicitors.

    The core business subjects provide a solid education in the essential areas of business, while the range of options allows students to choose from a variety of specialist subjects.

    You will be introduced to the core disciplines that underpin the academic analysis of both courses. Year one will help you explore the introduction of Law and Business providing you with an excellent foundation of knowledge for you to advance to year two with.

    Assessments

    A variety of assessment strategies are used at each level to ascertain your level of competence in a range of academic and transferable skills. These strategies include essays, practical reports, multiple-choice tests, oral presentations, time-constrained essays, seen and unseen examinations, critical reviews and group project work.

    Work Experience

    For those focused on pursuing a business related career following their studies, you are encouraged to take advantage of the year long placements possibilities after the second year of the course. Our Centre for Enterprise and Employability helps you find suitable placements.

  • A variety of assessment strategies are used at each level to ascertain your level of competence in a range of academic and transferable skills. These strategies include essays, practical reports, multiple-choice tests, oral presentations, time-constrained essays, seen and unseen examinations, critical reviews and group project work.

    For this programme taught study would be a combination of lectures, seminars and workshops, usually for 12 hours per week. We recommend you spend 24 hours per week in self-directed study time.
