If you are passionate about fashion and ambitious to work in one of the many areas of the industry which encompasses branding, marketing, merchandising, buying, styling, PR, live events, promotion or digital communications, then this fashion marketing course provides a fantastic platform from which to launch your career.

This innovative degree provides two distinct routes into careers within the fashion industry.

You will study both fashion marketing and fashion promotion in your first year and then choose the specialist area you wish to follow in your second and third year. A core study running throughout the course delivers key learning for all Fashion Marketing and Promotion professionals.

Course Content


  • This fashion marketing degree is jointly delivered by experts in fashion, marketing, photography, digital communications and specialist software. Academics are from both the Faculty of Business and Law and the Faculty of Arts, Science and Technology dependent on the specifics of the module being taught.

    Flexibility with routes into the industry

    You may start your degree without a fixed idea of the career path you wish to follow. This fashion marketing course is designed to provide lots of exposure to the hugely varied and exciting career options within the fashion industry then assist you to become ‘work ready’ and experienced enough to effectively launch your career upon graduation.

    The specialist routes enable you to make more informed career choices as you progress through the course.

    You will study a combination of modules dependent on your desired career destination. The programme has a core of activity with optional pathways towards either a more business, marketing-based career or more visual fashion promotions and communications route. Personal Tutors from both fashion and marketing expertise will work with you to assist in deciding on the desired route and specialism for your second and third year.

    Placement Year Opportunity

    You are encouraged to undertake a year-long placement in between Stages Two and Three of study. If you meet the entry criteria, and choose to take up a placement year you will find it an invaluable experience that helps you to apply your learning in your final year and prepares you for your career. We offer a lot of support in helping you to find a placement, which can be in the UK or overseas.

        The purpose of this module is to introduce a range of creative, digital and technical skills and techniques to convey information effectively across a variety of multi-media platforms. Emphasis on the production of digital communications which demonstrate a variety of problem-solving techniques from concept to consumer in a multi channel environment will be inherent.

        The purpose of this module is to introduce the concept of marketing to students. To explain what marketing is and to show the way in which marketing impacts on organisations, customers and other stakeholders. The idea of ?creating value? is central to a marketing orientation and this module seeks to explain what this means in a rapidly changing external environment..

        To provide an overview of how understanding consumers can be applied to building successful brands. To understand the basis for consumer behaviour and the importance of the factors affecting it, including psychological, personal, social and technological. To introduce the building of consumer-based brand equity and how this can be communicated through brand storytelling.

        The purpose of this module is to offer practical experience and insight into a broad range of commercial applications for image making within editorial, advertising and product photography, including the opportunity to explore the promotional potential of social media and digital platforms.         This module will consolidate and expand upon marketing, promotion and communication principles through processes and contextual analysis introduced in level 5. A self-initiated final website project will encompass creative, conceptual, technical, theoretical and practice-based skills by utilising the knowledge and experience gained throughout the degree to underpin the context. This will necessitate development of subject specific content to present the technical and creative skills for potential clients.

        This module will consolidate and expand upon marketing, promotion and communication principles through processes and contextual analysis introduced in level 5. A self-initiated final Fashion Futures project will encompass creative, conceptual, technical, theoretical and practice-based skills by utilising the knowledge and experience gained throughout the degree to underpin the context. This will necessitate development of subject specific content to present technical CAD and creative skills at a level commensurate with study.

        Students will explore a range of issues that underpin campaign development and will develop skills in analysing the context for campaigns. Students will develop strategies and plan campaigns for a range of different scenarios, using both analytical and creative skills to identify appropriate activities and media.

        The purpose of this module is to equip learners with entrepreneurial and intrapreneurial knowledge and skills, examining how these are deployed in different contexts, in establishing new business ventures and growing organisations, where creativity is a driver of innovation and change.

        Through the use of current academic theory, marketing and consumer trends, students will undertake indepth research into an identified sector within fashion or the lifestyle industries. This will result in the identification of an opportunity which is relevant to the given market level. Students will apply their research and analysis to the propose a concept for further development.

        Using the concept proposal from MKT3062 students will develop and refine the marketing concept to create a viable solution. This will be a visualisation of the concept ? the physical / digital solution supported by an in-depth report which justifies the outcome. The solution needs to demonstrate a strong awareness of current or emerging marketing conventions relevant to the given sector.

    Modules are taught using our innovative ‘Active Blended Learning’. This approach is student centred with an emphasis on problem-based learning and enquiry. Varied activities within our fashion marketing course include conducting primary research, study trips in the UK and abroad, industry guest speakers, live client projects, working in teams, adobe creative suite training, technical training on specialist equipment, Cad software training and staging live events.

    If you have non-standard qualifications or do not quite meet the admissions requirements for the Fashion Marketing and Promotion degree we can offer you a fantastic opportunity to study a four year Fashion Marketing and Promotion programme which includes a Integrated Foundation Year. The Integrated Foundation Year will help you develop the theoretical/practical and academic skills you need, in order to successfully progress to the full award.

    Our four-year courses will enable you to successfully follow the degree pathway of your choice while gaining essential study skills. The foundation year of your chosen degree will be studied on a full-time basis and is aimed at supporting the transition to higher education. Years two, three and four are then studied as a standard degree programme.

  • How will I learn?

    On our Fashion Marketing and Promotion degree, modules are taught using our innovative ‘Active Blended Learning’. This approach is student centred with an emphasis on problem-based learning and enquiry. Varied activities within the programme include conducting primary research, study trips in the UK and abroad, industry guest speakers, live client projects, working in teams, adobe creative suite training, technical training on specialist equipment, Cad software training and staging live events.

    If you are studying this fashion marketing course you can expect taught study to be a combination of seminars/workshops/accessing online materials usually for 12 hours per week. We recommend that you spend 24 hours per week in self-directed study time.

    How will I be assessed?

    Assessment methods vary per module. The modules involve a variety of assessment such as seminar/group and individual presentations/project work/exams/written assignment/portfolio.

    What is a Changemaker Certificate?

    Additional qualifications are available through our unique Changemaker Certificate. A ‘changemaker’ is someone who identifies a social problem – and does something about it. By taking the certificate and associated training you can broaden your skills through developing innovative solutions to some of the challenges of the fashion industry such as resource scarcity, fast fashion, recycling, upcycling and re-purposing.
