Student parking

University of Northampton Parking

If you have questions about permit types, parking on campus, or what to do if you miss a deadline, please read our Student Parking FAQs.

How to Apply

Due to exceptionally high demand and limited parking capacity at both the Waterside Campus and the Development Hub, all available parking permits have now been allocated.

Applications submitted at this stage will be placed on the parking permit waiting list.

Apply online

Parking permits are allocated through a fair and consistent process. If a permit becomes available during the academic year, applicants will be contacted in waiting list order. Please note: Being placed on the waiting list does not guarantee that a permit will become available during the academic year.

There is no need to submit another application or contact the Parking Team to maintain your place on the waiting list. We will contact you directly if a permit becomes available.

If you have any questions, please contact Parking.Permits@northampton.ac.uk.

A parking permit allows drivers to park on private University property and authorises the use of designated University car parks.

Please note that a parking permit does not cover the cost of parking. Parking charges still apply and must be paid using the payment method applicable to your permit type.

*Before you Apply*

Parking on campus is extremely limited. The University is committed to reducing emissions through its Travel Plan, and each year we receive more than 800 permit applications for around 500 available spaces. Unfortunately, this means that not all students who apply will be offered a permit.

Alternative Parking Options

If you are unable to obtain a permit, we recommend considering the following alternatives and please note that the University does not recommend parking on residential streets.

Carers Permits

To support a 2026/27 Carers Permit application, applicants must complete the online application form  and provide one of the following supporting documents:

  • A GP Letter, doctor’s note or medical letter confirming the condition of the person you care for
  • A Carers Card
  • An email from your tutor (if they are aware of your situation)

If additional information is required to support your Carers application, you will be contacted by email.

You will receive an email advising you of the outcome of your application once a decision has been made.

Assist and Blue Badge permits

Blue Badge and ASSIST permit applications will remain open all year for applications through the PMS system. For further information, please visit our Blue Badge and ASSIST parking pages.

If additional information is required to support your application, you will be contacted by email.

You will receive an email advising you of the outcome of your application once a decision has been made.

If Your Application Is Unsuccessful

You have the right to appeal the decision. When submitting an appeal:

  • Include the application reference number in the subject line of your email.
  • Provide any additional supporting evidence you would like to be considered.

Extenuating Circumstances

Permit applications are assessed in accordance with the University’s parking arrangements and permit availability. If you believe you have extenuating circumstances that should be considered, please submit your permit application and then contact parking separately by email, providing full details and any supporting evidence.

Extenuating circumstances will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis and approval is not guaranteed.
