Welcome, Induction and Arrival
Welcome, Induction, and Arrival will give you the opportunity to settle into university, plus make new friends and feel like a member of our community. You will feel well prepared to begin studying and know that University staff are here to help and support you.
See how the Student’s Union and Student Futures can help you feel part of the UON community in our welcome timetable of activities, running throughout January and February.
Starting at UON
During the first few weeks, we will give you the very best start and provide you with the opportunity:
- to get to know other students including those in your tutor group.
- to help you to become familiar with the academic study expectation on your course.
- to learn about working, living and socialising together as a member of the University of Northampton community.
- to help to find your way around the Waterside Campus.
We will also provide you with an individual session with your Personal Academic Tutor (PAT) and timetabled academic orientation activity.
The Students’ Union work in close partnership with the University of Northampton, including sessions which they run alongside Welcome and Induction.
Welcome and Arrival – January 2026
We are looking forward to seeing students who are enrolling in January 2026.
Students studying Midwifery will be enrolling early on 5 January at 10am in the Learning Hub.
If you are not studying midwifery, you will not be able to attend on this date.
Non-midwifery students: You will be able to book your Face-to-Face enrolment slot during your online enrolment. Please make sure your online enrolment is complete and your slot is booked before you attend an enrolment session. Please book an enrolment slot at least two days before you intend to arrive at the university.
Please note that if you are a non-UK passport holder, you must bring your passport to your enrolment session. All international students must bring their passport, proof of entry into the UK, such as a boarding pass or plane ticket, and a E-visa share code. For assistance, please visit the Visa and Immigration information page.
Halls of Residence
If you are staying in Halls of Residence, please complete your face-to-face enrolment before heading to your room. Your room access will be programed to your student ID card which you will receive after enrolment, unless you are staying in Scholars Green, in which case, you will be able to collect your key from the lobby of your halls after you have enrolled. You will not be able to have access to your room before you have fully enrolled. You must have arranged your accommodation before you arrive. See our University Accommodation page for more details.
Enrolment, Parking and Travel Arrangements
Our face-to-face enrolment sessions take place at our Waterside Campus. The below provides an overview of the enrolment, parking and travel arrangements.
Parking is available on campus for students for your enrolment slot only, though car parks often fill up quickly during enrolments. Parking must be paid for via RingGo upon arrival. You will not be able to park on campus after your enrolment without a permit before 4:30pm on weekdays. For alternatives, please refer to our Student Parking Page or use one of the local parks which are only a few minutes walk from campus, such as St. Johns Multistorey or The Midsummer Meadow Car Park. Our Park and Ride is a convenient means of reaching us by car.
If you are a Blue-Badge holder, or have a disability which impacts your ability to walk or use public transport, you can apply to park on campus. Strict criteria applies. Please refer to Student Blue Badge and ASSIST Parking Page for more information.
If you are travelling by air to the UK for enrolment, we have partnered with the National Express to offer a 20% discount for all airport transfers from Heathrow, Gatwick, Birmingham International and Manchester direct to Northampton town centre. See Travelling to Northampton to claim your discount.
The university offers a Park and Ride service as an alternative to parking on campus. Please check our Park and Ride page for more information.
Buses stop at the Train Station and Innovation Centre and the Waterside Campus.
During the week, The Park and Ride buses run hourly during the daytime and more frequently at peak times to Waterside to provide quick reliable bus travel to the University campus.
If you have a disability, medical condition, injury or other additional need that affects your mobility or ability to queue or manage crowded spaces, please contact ASSIST as soon as possible to let them know about your support needs. This includes those with a mental health difficulty or neurodivergence, who may struggle with noise, lots of people or sensory overload. Email the team on assist@northampton.ac.uk
You are welcome to bring family and friends with you on the day which you arrive. However family and friends will not be allowed into the enrolment areas. Your family and friends are welcome to visit other areas of the campus or visit one of the catering outlets which are open on campus.
Please download the Stagecoach App and create an account using your UON student email address. Once you have done this, email travelinfo@northampton.ac.uk. If you have any questions about travel, please see our travel pages.
If you are moving into Waterside Student Village then you can drop into the Moulton Doctors Surgery, Delapre Walk over the main enrolment period to register with the GP.
