Travelling to Northampton

Once you land in the UK, there are numerous ways you can travel to the University of Northampton for the September 2026 intake, listed below are a few options:

National Express discount

For new students arriving in September 2026, we have partnered with the National Express to offer a 20% discount for all airport transfers from Heathrow, Gatwick, Stansted, Luton, Birmingham International and Manchester direct to Northampton town centre. Simply book your journey by clicking the link below, choosing your airport, which terminal you are travelling to, and your travel date that works with your arrival time and the discount will automatically be applied.

Airport transfer from Heathrow Airport

For our September starters we offer a discounted coach transfer from London Heathrow, Terminal 3 to University of Northampton Waterside Campus for £30 per seat (maximum of two seats available per travelling student).

The coach transfer is available during the Welcome Weekend on the following dates:

Departure from: London Heathrow, Terminal 3. The coach arrives at 11am and departs at 12pm.

Drop off at: Waterside Campus same day

Places on the coach transfer are limited, so we recommend booking your seat as soon as your flights are confirmed.

To ensure you have enough time to collect your luggage and pass through customs, please book a flight that arrives by 10:30am at the latest.

Please be aware that coach luggage space is limited, and we can accommodate a maximum of two large hold bags per passenger. If you plan to bring additional luggage, please contact us before booking at international@northampton.ac.uk.

Travelling by Taxi

If you are making your own way to campus, you are strongly advised to arrange a taxi as the safest means of transport to the University in advance of you travelling.

We suggest you book a taxi through Take Me Taxis or Amber Cars as these are approved by the university. Bookings can be made over the phone, online via their website or by downloading their App. Please note you may be asked to pay the fee in advance. It costs approximately £100 – £150 for a pickup service from Heathrow airport. It can be more depending on the waiting time at the airport. You will be asked to provide your flight number and mobile contact number when making the booking. Uber is also available in Northampton.

Travelling by Bus

There are regular buses from London Heathrow airport to Northampton Bus Station.

The journey is average 2.5 hours and it costs approximately £40. Buses are also available from Birmingham International airport and Luton Airport to Northampton Bus Station. We advise you to book a ticket online before travelling. Timetables and ticket booking information can be accessed via the National Express Coaches website. The Take Me Taxis office is opposite the Bus Station main entrance, and you can request a taxi from there upon your arrival. If you want to use the local bus services, please ask the Information Desk inside the bus station for timetable and bus route information.

Travelling by Train

Trains are also available to Northampton Train Station from London Euston Station which is located in central London. The price is around £37, however it can be more expensive during peak times Monday to Friday. The services run approximately every 20 minutes. The train only takes around one hour from London Euston Station to Northampton, but please note you will need to take the London underground service from Heathrow airport to London Euston Station.

Train tickets can be purchased from National Rail. You may be able to find a cheaper ticket if you buy it in advance. Taxis can be found outside Northampton Train Station. Train services are also available from Birmingham International airport to Northampton, please visit the National Rail website for more information.
