International Development and Human Geography (Joint Honours) BA/BSc (Hons)

This course is designed to introduced you to main issues surrounding International Development within the context of an unequal global economy. It will lead you to enjoyable and challenging training in Human geography, focusing upon core skills and concepts.
Combining Human Geography and International Development will provide you with a relevant, progressive and educational experience. Our aim is to ensure you gain an understanding of the basic concepts, skills and methods of geographical enquiry, whilst gaining an insight into the ways in which the individual disciplines of geography, sociology, politics and economics approach the study of developing countries.
We will support you to achieve your career and study ambitions, which is why if you complete our Employability Plus Gold programme or Changemaker Gold certificate alongside your studies and if you haven’t secured full-time employment 12 months after graduating* we will secure a three – six month paid internship for you, or support you into postgraduate study.

There is an optional year-long work placement on this course. If you choose to do this placement year you will gain valuable industry experience in the area of your choosing.
Course Details
From a Geographical perspective, you will engage in contemporary debates concerning the content of Human Geography, and will explore these debates through ‘field’ experience. Alongside this you will study International Development themes such as economic growth, trade, aid, modernisation and urbanisation, together with detailed development case studies drawn from specific countries in Latin America, Africa and Asia.

A typical offer is BCC at A Level or DMM at BTEC. Standard entry requirements apply. Applications from students with a range of non-traditional educational or career qualifications are also welcome.

Course Content
You will be introduced to many concepts in the field of Development, together with empirical examples. You will gain a solid understanding of economics, geography and sociology/politics and will also have the opportunity to examine a wide range of issues and debates within Human Geography.
