Support for students at UON

As an international student, deciding to study abroad in a country I’ve never visited before was a big decision for me, but I was supported by the support services at UON to make the transition less stressful. I was quite nervous during my application, visa process and arrival. I was supported by the international student and immigration services during the process of my application, visa and arrival, which has helped my start here go smoothly. After my arrival I have used a range of other support services at UON:

Library

The Library Help Desk provides support on accessing the resources you need for your research, whether it’s physical or online. You can book a meeting with the librarians in your subject area for a one-on-one session in which you can get help on collecting research material, formatting an essay question, or writing your dissertation.

Student Information Desk

The Student Information Desk on the ground floor of Learning Hub is another place to go for getting support or advice about a problem. The Student Information Desk will provide help for your problem or guide you to the relevant support team and inform you on how to contact them. Examples of the teams include Immigration Compliance Services, ASSIST, Student Support, and Accommodation Office. If they cannot assist you on the topic, they will give you information on where to contact outside of university. Located next to the Student Information Desk, there is the IT team where it is possible to get help for any software, login or other tech issues you might have.

Student Futures

Student Futures is also located in the Ground Floor of Learning Hub, right across from the IT team. Student Futures offer help in building your CV, writing cover letters and making job applications. They also offer one on one meetings you can book to get further career related advice.

Lecturers and Personal Academic Tutor

Lastly, during my studies I’ve gotten the most support from my lecturers and Personal Academic Tutors (PATs). They’ve guided me throughout my academic journey and taught me a lot, but not limited to that. Any sort of problem I had I could talk to them about it, during one-on-one chats, PAT check-ins, via emails or when I saw them at the studio out of lectures.

They have made my university life so much better and I am very thankful for their continuous support.
