My Top 10 tips
As a third-year student, here are my top tips for getting ready for starting university:
Attend Freshers’ week
Freshers’ week is filled with social events, campus tours, and networking opportunities. Take advantage of these to meet new people and explore student life.
Join a Society or Club
Whether it’s football, esports or anime, joining a society helps you make friends, develop skills and enrich your university experience.
Explore Campus
Locate essential locations like the library, student services, and lecture rooms. Knowing your way around will make navigating your studies easier.
Engage with your studies
Attend your induction and first lectures, introduce yourself to fellow students and lecturers; and establish a study routine.
Take care of your wellbeing
Balancing academic and social life is important. Prioritise your mental and physical well-being by using the UON’s support services, including counseling and wellness programmes.
Sort out the essentials
Make sure you always have your ID, set up your email, and make sure you can log into the student portal (log-in required). Also, open a student bank account and plan your budget
Make use of support services
UON provides academic support, career guidance and support services. Don’t hesitate to use these resources if you need help.
Find a study routine
Experiment with different study techniques, visit the library and create a schedule to balance your workload effectively.
Discover Northampton
Step outside of campus and explore Northampton’s cafes, parks, and attractions. Getting to know your surroundings will make you feel more at home.
Get to know your flatmates and course mates
Building relationships early on will make your university experience more enjoyable. Organise social activities or study sessions to connect with others.
