Student Support at the University of Northampton
While studying at the University of Northampton, you can access a wide range of support to help you with all aspects of student life. In this blog, we will explore some of the services available and how they can help you.
Academic Support
UON offers a broad variety of academic support to help you succeed. This includes being assigned a Personal Academic Tutor (PAT) who can offer you personal and academic guidance. I have personally found it very helpful having a PAT as I know this is someone I can contact with a variety of issues and they can point me in the right direction to get the help I need.
Also there is the Learning Development team who help students to develop their academic and study skills, alongside the Academic Librarians who can guide you when searching for certain papers or even writing a reference for an assignment. If you require extra support, ASSIST offers support including many things from sign language interpreters to exam adjustments.
Wellbeing
Here, your wellbeing is a priority. One of the main ways this is demonstrated is through the Counselling and Mental Health Team, who offer up to six one-to-one sessions to help with any concerns you may have. This service is entirely confidential and is free to students, so is something I encourage you to engage with if you feel it would benefit you. Spiritual wellbeing is also looked after under the Multi-faith Chaplaincy who offer a drop in for all students. Money and finances can also impact your student wellbeing so the university’s Financial Guidance Team can provide support if you feel you need it.

Residential Life
If you decide to live in halls, you may find it useful to familiarise yourself with Residential Life (ResLife). This team can help you if you are struggling to adjust to living away from home for the first time or even settle issues within your flat. There are many members of the team from full time Advisors to Student Coordinators, so chances are there will always be someone to listen to or help you.
Student Futures
Student Futures can support you with exploring goals and connecting students to careers. This team offer CV and interview workshops and drop-in sessions. They can also assist in finding placements, internships and part-time work that you may wish to access during your studies. A key aspect of this is Unitemps – the campus recruitment agency. They offer many positions for students (including the role of student ambassador, and student influencer) that mean they can earn money while they study. For me, knowing that I had a team dedicated to helping me achieve my career goals and connecting me with people in the industry was key to me starting my journey here. The university also offers lifelong career support for graduates so you can access this support at any time you may need it.
