The next stage of study

I just transitioned from undergraduate to postgraduate at the University of Northampton and it is one of the most rewarding steps I have ever taken.

One thing was certain, I always wanted to do a Master’s. It was never a question of would I do it; rather which university I would be studying at. I had my Bachelor’s in Marketing Management here at UON and while studying I realised it was best for me to return here for my Master’s.

In case you are wondering how the transition from undergraduate to postgraduate at the University of Northampton has been such a rewarding journey for me. Here is why:

A Community That Already Feels Like Home

Starting something new is always nerve-wracking, but staying at Northampton made that leap feel natural. I already knew the campus, the town, and even the people. That familiarity gave me confidence, but what really made a difference was the community.

The University of Northampton is not just a place to study for me; it’s a network of people who genuinely care about my growth. My lecturers didn’t stop supporting me even after my course ended.

At UON, support doesn’t fade after graduation. It deepens. I’m currently studying for a master’s in business analytics and for someone who previously studied marketing, crossing over to analytics and AI is a huge step for me.

And it just made sense that I am taking this huge step here.

Modules Alignment with my Aspirations:

Before I applied, the very first thing I did was check out the course modules. Honestly, everything on the list just clicked with what I wanted to learn and the direction I wanted my career to take. It wasn’t just theory, the modules are designed to give practical skills, hands-on experience, and knowledge that I can use in the real world. Seeing that alignment made me feel confident about my transition and my decision to stay.

Building for the Future

Let’s be honest; postgraduate study is also about preparing for what comes next. And the University of Northampton’s commitment to employability makes that preparation feel intentional and achievable. Through Student Futures, I’ve had access to workshops and networking events. Those resources helped me see how my postgraduate degree connects to the world beyond university and how to stand out in a competitive job market.

What’s great is that, as a postgraduate, you get even more personalised support. The university really invests in helping you translate your studies into real opportunities.

The Perks of Staying

You know what else staying comes with? Staying at UON comes with some real perks. As an alumni, I qualified for an alumni discount on my postgraduate tuition fees, which made continuing my studies much more affordable.

I also didn’t have to worry about the stress of relocating or settling into a new city, I could focus purely on learning and growing. Plus, the Waterside Campus still takes my breath away. It’s the perfect mix of modern, sustainable design and relaxing riverside views. Having familiar spaces like the Learning Hub, the library, and all the student facilities feels so good.

This university gave me the space to grow, the support to thrive, and the confidence to do well in my studies. I didn’t need to start over; I just needed to keep building on what I’d already started here.

If you’re at a crossroads right now, wondering whether to stay or move on, my advice is simple: don’t underestimate the power of continuity. Sometimes, the best place to take your next step is the place that already feels like home.
