The University of Northampton Community

Belonging to a community really matters! It creates a safe and supportive space where you can feel valued, make new connections and boost confidence. UON is committed to taking part in public and community engagements to offer a wide range of support to students to promote good health and wellbeing habits, celebrate community culture and heritage.

Social life around campus

UON promotes a truly lively campus culture with many fantastic opportunities and events to connect with others. This allows students to connect with one another and build new relationships with local companies, university staff and students.

An example of this is at the Waterside Bar where events are organised like quiz bingo, night karaoke and other fun things for students to enjoy the whole week.

During on-campus events, students can get to know their peers, improve communication skills, get involved in creative projects, find motivation and inspiration, or simply just have fun! Whether you want to support your academic growth or get a break from studying, UON has something to offer for everyone.

Two students are sitting at a table in the Waterside restaurant. They are chatting and laughing. On the table is a half-empty pint glass, cruet set, and silver bucket containing cutlery and napkins.

The Students’ Union

Don’t forget about the Students’ Union who also actively run many events, support sessions and meetings. There are also plenty of societies and sports clubs that students can take part in. These are great to get to know people who have similar interests and hobbies to you, learn from each other, form a community and make friends!

Supporting local education and career planning

Having the Schools and Colleges Liaison Team on the campus allows UON to promote the university to teens and young adults. They can inspire and provide young people with valuable knowledge about higher education, their UCAS application process and career planning – making them part of the community at UON before they start their studies. The team also works closely with teachers, parents, advisors and students to ensure higher education awareness and support.

Connections with employers

UON effectively makes connections with lots of companies, charities and institutions to help students engage with employers within the local community. With tailored preparation, students can get ready for their future by getting to know professionals’ perspectives and secure volunteering positions, work placements, permanent jobs and work experience opportunities. Gaining professional contacts can support students’ engagement in seeking employment alongside their studies and help them stand out in the market.
