Professor Shân Wareing

Professor Shân Wareing, Deputy Vice ChancellorThe Deputy Vice Chancellor is appointed by the Board of Governors and is designated as a senior post holder and an officer of the University.

Shân joined the University in 2019. She has held university leadership roles for over 20 years, and has developed and delivered education strategies in five universities. Educated at the Universities of Oxford and Strathclyde and University College London Institute of Education, Shân has degrees in English Literature, Linguistics and Education. She’s passionate about teaching and education, and is a National Teaching Fellow, as well as a Principal Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.

She is fascinated by organisational transformation and governance and has led numerous successful institutional change programmes. Shân publishes on leadership, digital education and organisational change, and is a regularly invited speaker for conferences and policy think tanks, particularly in the areas of digital transformation, gender and leadership, equality, diversity and inclusivity, and university strategy. She enjoys contributing to national debates via blogging; two of her blogs have won national awards. She is Chair of Unite Foundation, a charity which provides homes at university for care experienced and estranged students, and is also Chair of Advance HE’s Leadership and Management Strategic Advisory Group.
