Becky Bradshaw

Becky Bradshaw is Interim Vice-Chancellor of the University of Northampton, where she provides strategic leadership for one of the UK’s leading modern universities during a period of significant change and opportunity for the higher education sector. Having previously served as Deputy Vice-Chancellor and Chief Operating Officer, she has led institutional transformation across strategy, organisational performance, financial sustainability, governance, international development and operational excellence, helping to position the University for long-term success in an increasingly complex national and global environment.

With more than twenty five years in Higher Education and eight years of leadership experience at the University of Northampton, Becky has played a central role in shaping the institution through periods of considerable change. She has led major strategic and organisational transformation programmes, overseen large-scale institutional change, strengthened governance and regulatory assurance, and championed innovation to improve organisational resilience and student outcomes. Her approach combines strategic vision with a strong focus on delivery, recognising that successful leadership requires both ambitious thinking and the ability to turn strategy into meaningful outcomes.

Becky is a passionate advocate for the transformative power of higher education. She believes universities have a vital role not only in educating students, but also in creating opportunity, driving innovation, supporting economic growth and strengthening the communities and regions they serve.

Alongside her commitment to place-based leadership, Becky has extensive experience in international higher education, developing strategic partnerships across Asia and supporting the growth of sustainable transnational education, international research collaboration and global engagement. She believes that universities are at their strongest when they combine deep local commitment with an outward-looking international perspective.

Coming from a working-class background and entering higher education through a non-traditional route has profoundly shaped Becky’s leadership philosophy. She is passionate about widening opportunity – not only for students, but also within higher education leadership itself. Her experience has reinforced her belief that talent and leadership potential exist across every part of society, and that universities have an important responsibility to create environments where people from all backgrounds can thrive and succeed.

Becky is particularly interested in the future role of universities as anchor institutions, and in how the sector can respond to the challenges and opportunities presented by changing student expectations, technological innovation, demographic change, economic transformation and evolving public policy.

An authentic, collaborative and values-led leader, Becky is known for building high-performing teams, developing inclusive organisational cultures and leading with openness, resilience and integrity. She believes that effective leadership is rooted in trust, curiosity and partnership, and that the most successful organisations are those which empower people to contribute their best.

Becky is currently finishing a Masters degree in Leadership, with research focused on social mobility in higher education leadership and the barriers faced by individuals from working-class backgrounds in progressing to senior executive roles. She continues to champion greater diversity of thought, experience and background across leadership in higher education, believing that universities are strengthened when leadership better reflects the communities they serve.
