Why I Chose to Study at the University of Northampton

Choosing a university is a major decision, and for me, the University of Northampton (UON) stood out for several important reasons. What first attracted me to UON was its strong focus on employability, practical learning, and student wellbeing. From the beginning, the university felt welcoming, supportive, and genuinely invested in helping students succeed both academically and personally.

My course was another major reason I chose UON. I am currently studying Global Business Management, and the course aligns perfectly with my career goals. The range of modules, particularly Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and sustainability, played a key role in my decision, as these subjects are highly relevant in today’s global business environment and not offered in the same depth at many other universities. The small, interactive classroom environment also makes a big difference, as it encourages students to ask questions, engage in discussions, and gain deeper understanding rather than just passively listening.

Three students sat round a table in a student bar with drinks in hand and on the wooden table in front of them chatting to one another.

My experience at UON so far has been very positive, especially in terms of academic support. If you ever face difficulties with assignments, you can visit the Learning Hub on the 2nd Floor, where dedicated support teams provide effective guidance on academic writing, referencing, and coursework. Students can also book online support sessions through the university website. In addition, every student is assigned a Personal Academic Tutor (PAT) who offers ongoing academic and personal support. From every perspective, the level of support at UON is strong and highly student focused.

Beyond academics, the Students’ Union has played a huge role in helping me feel at home. As an international student, moving to a new country can feel overwhelming, but the Students’ Union made the transition much easier. When I visited the Students’ Union desk,I was introduced to a wide range of societies, communities, and sports activities. From academic and debate societies to sports like badminton, volleyball, and football, there are many ways to stay active and connected. This sense of inclusion, combined with the diverse student community, helped me feel
less lonely and more confident.

Overall, UON truly feels like a home away from home. Discover what the University of Northampton has to offer by visiting one of our open days.
