The professional accounting top up degree enhances the knowledge gained through professional studies by the development of analytical and problem-solving skills, critical thinking and social responsibility in a professional accounting context. It is a research driven professional accounting programme focusing on contemporary issues in accounting and their implications for organisational performance.
The accounting top up degree will enable partially qualified accountants to obtain an Honours degree by completing 120 credits of Level 6 study that extends their professional studies with coverage of analytical skills, problem-solving, critical thinking and social responsibility in a professional accounting context.
Students who have successfully completed all papers up to the professional level (ICAP CAF 1-9, ACCA applied knowledge and applied skills levels, CIMA operational and management levels, ICAN foundational and skills levels) or equivalent will be admitted into this top up accounting degree programme.
All International and EU students applying for a top up BSc accounting course with us must meet the following minimum English language requirements:
It may be possible to waive the IELTS requirement for students whose professional qualifications have been taught entirely in English or who sat those qualifications in a majority English-speaking country’.

The delivery and assessment design of individual modules are structured to meet distance learning requirements in terms of technology-enhanced and active blended learning. The first, Contemporary Issues in Accounting (ACC3028) will use a flipped virtual classroom and adopt a range of team-based and case-based learning approaches. The other two modules Research Methods (ACC3029) and Professional Accounting Dissertations (ACC4008) will adopt a technology-enhanced delivery approach, making use of state of the art techniques and technologies, with access to live data, and statistical software. On the top up accounting degree, there will be a strong emphasis on problem-solving and enhancing employability skills.
The modules use a variety of assessment methods and strategies. A combination of case-based reports, essays, dissertation and a research-based project to report your finding.
There is an emphasis on research, both of selecting relevant data and of determining the appropriate tools to assist with decision making. This is assessed often in the form of a case study enabling you to incorporate current issues and formulate and justify solutions.
This module enables students to evaluate contemporary issues in accounting to carry out research on a relevant topic. Students develop an ability to present, analyse and evaluate information in a reflective and critical manner.
This module gives a solid foundation on research methodology and methods for undertaking accounting research. It equips students with the skills to justify, develop, and carry out research in preparation for an extended piece of academic writing.
The purpose of this module is to carry out independent research on a relevant topic of their choice and develop an ability to analyse, evaluate and present information in a reflective and critical manner.
Please note the modules shown here relate to the academic year 25/26. The modules relating to the academic year 26/27 will be available from June 2026.
