Travel and Parking on Graduation Day

Travel and Parking for UON ceremonies

Please allow enough time when considering your travel. Ceremonies will start at the advertised time and will not be delayed for any missing students or guests.

You may have seen in recent UK news that rail strikes are due to take place at the same time as our upcoming graduation ceremonies, from Tuesday 7 May to Thursday 9 May.

We advise that you check the day before you travel to Northampton if you had planned to use the services detailed below and seek out alternate transport arrangements where possible. Be aware disruptions will have knock-on effects to other services, so we advise you allow plenty of time to make your journey. Please also check the itinerary for your graduation day.

The following services will be affected:

  • Tuesday 7 May: c2c, Greater Anglia, GTR Great Northern Thameslink, Southeastern, Southern, Gatwick Express and South Western Railway.
  • Wednesday 8 May: Avanti West Coast, Chiltern Railways, CrossCountry, East Midlands Railway, Great Western Railway and West Midlands Trains.
  • Thursday 9 May: LNER, Northern Trains and TransPennine Express.

An overtime ban for union members across all companies will also be in place between Monday 6 May to Saturday 11 May which may lead to further disruption.

If you have any concerns regarding travel to your graduation for you and your guests, please feel free to contact us.

  • Car parking: Edgar Mobbs Way – NN5 5JT

Students and guests should note that whilst we will try where possible to accommodate any late students and guests this is not always possible. Once the ceremony has begun there are certain areas within the auditorium in which we are unable to seat guests, so late arrivals may be given alternative seating arrangements.
