Travel and Parking on Graduation Day

Travel and Parking for UON ceremonies

Please allow enough time when considering your travel. Ceremonies will start at the advertised time and will not be delayed for any missing students or guests.

If you have any concerns regarding travel to your graduation for you and your guests, please feel free to contact us.

Venue Postcode

  • Main Campus Entrance, drop-offs only, no parking: NN1 5PH
  • Waterside Campus Car Park 4, pre-booked additional needs parking: NN4 8RP
  • Royal & Derngate Theatre: NN1 1DP

Students and guests should note that whilst we will try where possible to accommodate any late students and guests this is not always possible. Once the ceremony has begun there are certain areas within the auditorium in which we are unable to seat guests, so late arrivals may be given alternative seating arrangements.

Parking

As parking space is limited at Waterside, parking on campus will only be available to those students and guests with additional needs, and will need to be pre-booked as detailed on the Additional Needs Arrangements for Ceremonies page.

Where you park for the ceremony will depend upon what suits you and your guests best, there are several options available.

Parking in the town centre

The nearest car parks are St John’s Car Park (NN1 1HA) or Midsummer Meadows Car Park (NN1 5NX); both of these are within walking distance (5 – 10 minutes) of the campus. These are pay and display car parks and prices are available on the Council website.

University of Northampton Park and Ride

The Park and Ride system runs from the west side of Northampton and is a short distance from M1 junctions 15a and 16. The car park is  approximately a 2.3 mile journey (15 mins) to the University.

The address for the Park and Ride is: Claret Car Park, Edgar Mobbs Way, Sixfields, Northampton, NN5 5JR.

For bus times, please see Stagecoach Bus timetables. The Stagecoach buses accept contactless payments on board or payment via their app.

Travelling by taxi

Please ask your taxi driver to drop you off at Waterside Campus.

Address: University of Northampton, University Drive, NN1 5PH.

Travelling by train

Northampton Railway Station is approx one hour by train from both London Euston and Birmingham New Street. From Monday – Friday, the number 18 bus connects the train station to campus (at weekends, visitors should walk to the bus station and catch the 4/4A service to Waterside).

Travelling by bus or coach

Coach services including National Express operate from Victoria Street (please check with your operator to confirm) which is located directly beside the Upper Mounts car park in the town centre.

Local buses operate from Northgate Bus Station, just off the Market Square in the town centre; these include the Stagecoach 4/ 4A which departs from the Bus Station to Waterside campus approx every 10 minutes.
