What are Discovery Days?

We appreciate that choosing a university is a very important decision to make. So the University of Northampton’s Discovery Days are designed exclusively for applicants to experience their chosen courses. The Discovery Day at Northampton University is free and includes information on the courses available and gives a chance to explore the campus (be that virtually or via a campus tour). This first-hand experience is invaluable in helping you decide where and what course you would like to study.

We offer free travel to our Discovery Days

We offer free transport from London, Milton Keynes, Bedford, Birmingham, Leicester and Coventry. Further details will be emailed to you when you register.*

Or stay at the hotel on campus, Sunley Hotel, the night before with a discounted rate of £65 or £70 with breakfast further details below.*

Discovery Days FAQs

  • Discovery days are designed for applicants and give a chance to get into the nitty gritty of what our courses are about and meet other applicants who you could be studying with. If you haven’t applied yet, we would recommend signing up for an open day, Check out our open days page for more information. However, if you have applied already, a Discovery Day could be perfect for you.

  • Discovery Day places at the University of Northampton must be booked in advance, so make sure you secure yours as soon as possible.  If you can’t make it to a certain Discovery Day, there may be other events available and our campus tours run throughout the year. Check out our campus tours page for more information.

  • When making such an important decision, it can be very helpful to have a second opinion from someone you trust. That’s why you are very welcome to bring guests with you to any Discovery Day you attend at the University of Northampton.

  • Free parking is available on UON Discovery Days in car park 4 at Waterside Campus. Please use the following postcode NN4 8RR to find us.

If you’re planning to travel using our Park & Ride, make sure you use this address: Claret Car Park, Edgar Mobbs Way, Sixfields, Northampton, NN5 5JR. There is usually a cost for the Park & Ride but it is free to use during our discovery days.

If you plan to travel by train, please plan your journey in advance. When you arrive in Northampton, we’ve got you covered from the train station to campus. The Discovery Day Bus from the Park and Ride stops at the station and our Student Ambassador (wearing a blue uniform) will be on hand to point you in the right direction.

If you are from London, Milton Keynes, Bedford, Birmingham, Leicester or Coventry, we do also offer free transport, further details will be emailed to you when you register.

*Please note, we require 3 working days in order to book a seat on our transport. Places are allocated on a first come first served basis.

If you’re planning your journey and need somewhere to stay locally the night before, we have an exclusive reduced rate at our Sunley Hotel for those attending a discovery day.

£65 room only, per room per night or £70 B&B per room per night. Email sunleyhotel@northampton.ac.uk or call 01604 892020 and quote ‘discovery day’ when booking.

If you live over 100 miles away, we have a limited number of complementary rooms available for the night before the discovery day. Please contact The Events Team for more details.

*Please note, we require 3 working days in order to book complimentary rooms for anyone eligible. Places are allocated on a first come first served basis.

  • We endeavour to make all our events completely accessible. However, if you have any specific needs or require additional facilities, please contact us on 01604 892568 or events@northampton.ac.uk.

  • We understand that some people will need reasonable adjustments to access our university discovery days. The Events Team are always happy to help you plan your day to suit your requirements.

As your well-being and accessibility are our priority, we also offer a quiet tour option for those that need it. Please speak to a member of the Welcome Team when you arrive at registration.

  • If you are interested in MA History or Health and Social Care CPD courses, these won’t be at discovery days. This is because their class format means that there are better ways we can tell you about them.

If you have a course enquiry, the best option is to contact the course teams directly via the details on the course web pages. We also periodically run webinars for these courses so check out our Events Listings for what is coming up and the latest info regarding uni open days.

  • When it comes to what to wear to a uni Discovery Day, there are no set rules but during our on campus discovery days, as you will be touring the campus, comfortable footwear is recommended. Bear in mind that you may also be meeting your future tutors, so it’s a good idea to avoid wearing anything inappropriate.

  • Our virtual tour is a great way to see the campus. When you arrive for a Discovery Day, you will first head to the Creative Hub to let us know you are here so make sure you check out this location when you are browsing the campus online.

  • Check our our Living Room Lectures where you will be able to gain an insight into life at the University of Northampton and get all your questions answered whilst staying at home. Please check our event listings for more information.

Or come and join us for a campus tour.

If you have any questions you can email events@northampton.ac.uk or you can talk to us directly on 01604 892 568.
