What level of English do I need?
If English is not your first language, you will also need to demonstrate that your level of English is adequate to succeed on your course. For Bachelor degrees, you will normally require IELTS 6.0 (or equivalent) with no score below 5.5, For Master’s programmes you will normally require IELTS 6.5 (or equivalent) with no score below 5.5. Some courses may have different requirements and you should check on the Course Information pages for your chosen programme. What if my qualifications are lower?
If you apply for a Bachelor degree but your qualifications fall below the required level for year 1 entry, we may offer you a 4-year option, including Foundation Study Framework Year, or we may recommend a pathway programme with University of Northampton International College (UNIC).
If your academic qualifications are satisfactory but your English is below the necessary standard we offer Pre-sessional English programmes to prepare you for undergraduate or postgraduate study.
Does the University offer Scholarships or Bursaries?
You may be eligible for the University of Northampton International Scholarship, worth up to 30% reduction in tuition fees. Details can be found on our International Scholarships page.

“There is great support for international students here – whenever you need the help you can find it.
My course is related to the field I want to work in so everything has been useful so far. Every year we get the chance to organise an event, so the practical and hands on experience is so valuable.
In my placement, I am working as Events Coordinator with BI Worldwide, where I support the events teams in the Event Planning Department using my experience of organising events from first and second year. We were taught attention to detail and logistics which have come in handy in this role. We also were taught document sharing so everyone is aware of who has what role and this is something I use even more so for this placement and have learnt tips to take back to UON for my final year. I even use my lecturers advice on managing relationships.”

“I chose UON because I liked that Northampton was close to London but was smaller and safe. Also, the class sizes here are smaller which allows for one to one attention from tutors. This meant I had extra help to develop my design skills – I learnt everything from nothing. It helps that our tutors have real industry experience and are always approachable.
There are lots of opportunities to travel and attend industry events. UON teaches you to promote yourself and you’re exposed to different elements of the fashion industry which allows you to network, too. London Fashion Week was great and as a finalist I received wide media coverage.

“I really enjoyed my course and the different ways of studying. My lecturers were so inspirational and motivating and were there for me until the end of my degree. I really appreciated the support and the fact that I had a personal tutor from the start to end. We had so many extracurricular activities and I took on many volunteer roles, including as a Student Representative for Romanian students. I signed up with Unitemps and it was a great opportunity for me that you could work without having to interrupt your studies, as the roles would fit with my timetable. I managed to finance myself without any help throughout my three years of studies.”
