Belonging at UON

The atmosphere created at the University of Northampton hooked me in from the minute I set foot on the campus at one of their open days.

I was filled with what seemed like an innate belonging to a town I had never been to before.

UON prides itself on its inclusivity and belonging atmosphere in and around campus.

The university wants students to feel like they belong, like they’re at their home away from home.

Societies and Sports Clubs

There are a variety of sports clubs and societies at UON which are easily accessible, they allow students meet other students and make new friends. Not only is this beneficial in terms of good networking but also the range of societies and sports clubs available helps students with all sorts of interests join and be a part of a group, where they feel as though they belong.

Additionally, the Student Life team host regular on campus events which are another great way to socialise and meet new people. Often, students will buy food and drinks or pay to take part in certain events e.g. musical bingo which can quickly add up. Having the accommodation discount has allowed me to save money on my accommodation and put the money towards things like attending these events without having to worry about the financial cost that may come alongside taking part.

Save on rent, Change your future

Another way UON helps create a sense of belonging is by hosting a variety of employment focused events to help students with their future careers. These events are usually ran by the Student Futures team. Career focused events can challenge students to explore different career paths and opens them up to potential volunteering, placement or employment opportunities, helping them to not only belong in Northampton but belong in their career.

The accommodation discount has allowed me to spend the money saved on aspects of university that happen outside of social gatherings and the classroom. For example travel and transport to and from placements, networking events, or a part time job.
