Here are nine facts about the University of Northampton which provides an insight into our work on a local, regional, national and international level.
Inclusivity
- The University has consistently ranked in the top 60 universities across the globe in the Times Higher Education Impact awards for its work in the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 10 ‘Reduced Inequalities’ and was ranked in the top 50 in the UK for student satisfaction in the Complete University Guide 2026.
- For over 25 years the University has been operating its Student Mental Health and Counselling service, the first such dedicated service at a UK university. The University provides individual, tailored and wide-ranging support to ensure that the value added for every student takes into account their starting point and provides opportunities for personal and professional development.
Sustainability
- The University of Northampton generates an annual economic impact in Northamptonshire of £366 million Gross Value Added and supports 5,410 jobs.
- The University’s Environmental Management System externally accredited by Investors in the Environment has received the Green Award accreditation, the highest accolade possible.
Aspiration
- Each year, the University engages with over 35,000 young people, parents and teachers linked to widening access, the only University offering such opportunities to primary school children in the UK.
- The University has more than 4,500 students studying at partner institutions in locations as diverse as Greece, the Gulf States, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Vietnam and China.
- Each year, the University graduates more than 2,000 students who enter into public services careers including nursing, midwifery, social work and teaching.
Trust
- In REF2021 (the national review of quality research), 79% of the University’s submissions were classified as internationally recognised, internationally excellent or world leading with key research themes including education, humanities, business and health and sciences.
- The University is part of Northampton Forward, a body driving economic growth and regeneration in Northampton, a member of the Northamptonshire Anchor Institutions Network, a partnership of more than 20 key organisations and a stakeholder partner in Northampton’s ‘Active Quarter’, an identifiable place supporting wellbeing and active lifestyles in the town.
