The main thing everyone wants to do at university is to make the most of their time there. So if you’re just starting or wanting to learn about get the best out of your university experience, this blog will give you a few tips and tricks to achieve that!

Tip 1 – Societies

Joining a society can really help with meeting new people and exploring your interests. It can also help build confidence and enable you to develop new skills that will be helpful in the future after university. If there isn’t a society you are interested, you can always make your own!

Tip 2 – Gain real world experience

Applying for internships related to your course can really help give you that boost in your subject as well as teaching you new skills and information that may not be covered in lectures. Also, taking on freelance work whilst you are studying a creative subject can really help when building a portfolio for future employers after university.

Tip 3 – Take care of yourself

Ensure you are balancing both work and fun as burnout is a real thing. Exercising regularly and eating healthily can help ensure that you are looking after yourself, and it can also increase focus when you are studying. Making sure you are going out and having fun with friends is also key, whether that’s going out to a pub or even a coffee shop.

Tip 4 – Stay on top of your studies

Making sure you stay on top of your studies is vital as you may have multiple assignments due in within the same week, so establishing your study style early is key. Use the resources the university offers such as the 24 hour library, the career services provided by Student Futures, and make sure you are asking questions and engaging in class.

Tip 5 – Try new things

I would argue this is the most important!!

Say YES to new opportunities, even the ones that scare you, such as public speaking or starting a new project, as you never know where it could take you.

Make sure to remember that growth happens when you are pushed outside of your comfort zone.

Time flies and university will be some of the best years of your life, so cherish those friendships, late night talks and random adventures.

Don’t stress about having it all figured out, university is about discovering who you are and what you want.
