  The University of Northampton’s MSc in Logistics and Supply Chain Management aims to develop proactive managers who are confident in managing projects and business improvement of functional areas through effective leadership. It will allow you to follow a programme of management study containing a considerable element of specialism related to the supply chain of both local and multinational companies.

  This logistics management course will also provide both pre-experience career preparation and post-experience career progression opportunities for students from any disciplinary background at first degree level, but with the aspiration to enter or progress more rapidly in careers in logistics management or business. It will build on your existing skills and capabilities to develop Masters level knowledge and skills in the business and logistics management field, enhancing your employability and future career prospects.

  Our teaching will enable you to link theory into practice by a variety of methods, including case studies, business simulations, the completion of an applied research project and, in some cases, by means of a work-based learning component.

  As a student on this Logistics and Supply Chain Management MSc course, you’ll follow a core programme of study designed to broaden and reinforce your management knowledge in areas of managing operations, project management, risk and resilience, and the internet of things. You will additionally cover a range of topics specific to your chosen subject area, such as international logistics, applied logistics, procurement and supply, strategic issues in logistics and sustainability and environment. There’s also further opportunity to explore these subjects in your final Logistics Research Project.

  • Stage 1
    • Managing Operations (20 Credits)
      Module code: BSOM023

      Status: Compulsory
      This module critically evaluates concepts related to International Supply Chain and Logistics Management. It enables the learners to recognise the complex workings of the whole supply chain, and to coordinate and manage relevant decisions within their own organisations. Operations and supply chain decisions often require numerical analysis, therefore the module also entails the application of quantitative techniques.
    • International Logistics and Supply Chain (20 Credits)
      Module code: BSOM034

      Status: Compulsory
      The purpose of this module is to focus on the different elements that make up a holistic view of Logistics and Supply Chain Management. Supply Chains are sources of competitive advantage. The module evaluates the reasons by which improved performance in Logistics and Supply Chain management leads to lower operating costs, shorter lead times and better value for customers.
    • Strategic Issues in Logistics (20 Credits)
      Module code: BSOM040

      Status: Compulsory
      The module examines strategic issues in the logistics & supply chain industry, enabling students to develop a thorough understanding of the implications related to such strategic issues. Real case scenarios are investigated with a view to identify the impact of such issues and to highlight related strategic decisions as potential resolving responses.
    • Applied Logistics, Procurement and Supply (20 Credits)
      Module code: BSOM064

      Status: Compulsory
      The purpose of this module is to provide future managers with an introduction to International Logistics, Procurement and Supply Chain Management providing them with the knowledge, understanding and skills necessary to operate effectively beyond the bounds of their own organisations. The module brings theory to a contextualised environment, fostering good appreciation of stakeholder management.
    • Risk and Resilience in Holistic Value Chain Management (20 Credits)
      Module code: BSOM072

      Status: Compulsory
      The purpose of this module is to provide future business managers with an introduction to risk and resilience. It also enables the students to understand the workings of holistic supply chains and the required managerial decisions and how these intercede with risk mitigation strategies and resilience planning.
    • Business Research Project (60 Credits)
      Module code: BSOM077

      Status: Compulsory
      The purpose of this module is to offer the opportunity to the learners to develop skills in completing an investigative research project. The students will use their project management skills, their specialist skills gained in other modules and they will work towards successfully completing the capstone project of their masters degree.
    • Digital Twins and Internet of Things (20 Credits)
      Module code: BSOM078

      Status: Compulsory
      Digital Twin technologies are revolutionary phenomena for developing an exact digital or cyber replica of a physical asset or a system. Within this module, the learners will have the opportunity to investigate Digital Twin (DT) as an emerging technology, Internet of Things (IoT) as an enabler and other related theories and practices.

  Taught modules are delivered using a combination of lecture and workshop sessions, with an emphasis on participation and discussion. Case studies and exercises are used extensively on the MSc logistics and supply chain management course to bring concepts and theories to life.

  Enhanced Learning Credits Scheme

  MSc Logistics and Supply Chain Management is part of the Enhanced Learning Credits Scheme (ELCS). The ELCS is an opportunity for members of the Armed Forces to further or expand on their education. The scheme offers support financially in a maximum of three separate financial years for higher level learning of a nationally recognised qualification at a Level three or above.

  To be eligible for this MSc course in Logistics and Supply Chain Management the typical entry requirement would be a 2.2 or higher degree classification from a UK university or equivalent.
