Entry Requirements


Applications for the BSc Business Data & Information Systems top-up degree are welcomed from students with a HND (Edexcel, ABE, NCC) equivalent in subjects related to Business, data or Information Systems (or overseas equivalent).

 

  • All International and EU students applying for this information systems course with us must meet the following minimum English language requirements:

    • Minimum standard – IELTS 5.5 (or equivalent) with a minimum of 5.5 in all bands.

    Students who do not meet the English language requirement are encouraged to join a pre-sessional English class before the program begins. More information about IELTS test equivalents, pre-session English class, or English support can be found on our IELTS page.

Course Content


  • This Top-Up BSc course focuses on refining your skills and knowledge to prepare for professional success. You will study modules such as E-commerce and Business Data, Emerging Trends in Data and Information Systems, and Academic Conventions for Critical Analysis, blending theoretical concepts with practical application.

    A key component is the Contemporary Research Project, where you will conduct independent research on a topic of your choice, applying data-driven methods to solve real-world problems.

    The year emphasises developing critical thinking, problem-solving, and technical skills while enhancing your understanding of data intelligence and its impact on business decision-making.     • ACC3046: E-commerce and Business Data – (Compulsory) – 20 credits

    In an increasingly digitised world, businesses operate within complex ecosystems shaped by digital platforms, e-commerce business models and evolving complex business data. This module aims to equip students with a thorough understanding of the dynamics, challenges and opportunities presented by the interconnected digital business landscape to make informed business decisions.

    • EDU3066: Applying Academic Conventions – (Compulsory) – 20 credits

    This module develops students’ ability to effectively apply academic conventions in the subject area, focusing on subject-specific and academic language development for a variety of written and spoken contexts.  Students acquire reading strategies to engage effectively with academic literature and develop communication skills to enable active contribution to collaborative tasks.

    • ACC3047: Emerging Trends in Data and Information Systems – (Compulsory) – 20 credits

    This module examines the latest trends in data and information systems, emphasising hands-on applications, ethical and sustainability considerations, and legal compliance. Students gain insights into information systems methodologies, AI and machine learning technologies, and key data management practices, and engage in vital discussions on data privacy and legal standards.

    • EDU3067: Academic Conventions for Critical Analysis – (Compulsory) – 20 credits

    This module develops language and thinking skills for critical analysis and evaluation in academic and subject-specific contexts.  Students analyse and critique academically challenging texts to support academic arguments, making effective use of information from a range of sources and adapting use of language to the purpose and context.

    • ACC4012: Contemporary Research Project – (Compulsory) – 40 credits

    The purpose of this module is to empower students to advance their business research skills, fostering independence within industry-relevant settings, while receiving academic mentorship. Students select, research, design, implement, report, and derive conclusions from a self-chosen topic.

Fees and Funding


2025/26 Tuition Fees

Fees quoted relate to study in the Academic Year 25/26 only and may be subject to inflationary increases in future years.

  • UK Full Time: £9,535*
  • International Full Time: £17,000

* The 2025/26 annual tuition fee for undergraduate courses has not yet been confirmed by the Department for Education but is expected to be £9,535 for year one. UON will adjust fees annually in line with government policy.

  • There are no additional costs for this information systems and business data course for students beginning their studies in September 2025. Should this change, applicants and students will be contacted by the university with details of the costs.
