Choosing a course at university can be tricky, so here are our Top 5 reasons to study BSc Accounting and Finance at the University of Northampton:

1. Accredited course:

An ‘accredited course’ is a programme of study which has been recognised by a professional body or organisation and verifies the quality of a programme. Our BSc Accounting and Finance course is accredited by professional accounting bodies, such as ACCA, CIMA and ICEAW. This ensures that the course is up to date with industry standards and provide relevant practical knowledge to students.

Completing an accredited accounting and finance degree is beneficial for you, as it provides assurance that the course meets the necessary standards and will prepare you for a career in accounting and finance. Additionally, completion of our accredited course can also provide you with exemption from certain professional exams and requirements.

2. Experienced staff:

Our Accounting and Finance team is made up of experienced and knowledgeable faculty members who have practical experience in the accounting and finance industry. They use their expertise to provide students with real-world examples and case studies to ensure that they are well-equipped for the workforce.

3. Excellent facilities:

The University of Northampton has excellent facilities, including a trading room with Bloomberg terminals, which provide you with hands-on experiences in trading, investment, and financial analysis. We also have a 24/7 library and excellent learning development teams to help you with your studies.

4. Placement year:

We encourage all our students to take a placement in between their second and final year of study. A placement year provides an opportunity to gain practical work experience and apply your learning in a real-world setting.

Our Accounting and Finance team have established relationships with a range of employers, including accounting firms, financial institutions, and other businesses, which offer placement opportunities to students. The placement year can count towards the work experience required for the professional bodies when qualifying as an accountant, and lots of our students get offered graduate roles to return to after they complete their degree. One of our recent graduates recently competed their placement year at Network Rail and has since returned there in a graduate role. Placements can be taken either locally in Northamptonshire or anywhere in the country, and we provide lots of support for those who wish to complete a placement year.

5. Career opportunities:

The accounting and finance industry offers a wide range of career opportunities, including accountancy, financial analysis, audit, tax, and management accounting. Our Accounting and Finance team have strong links within the industry and provide a lot of career and employability support to students. They run employability workshops on things like how to write a CV, how to prepare for an interview and how to develop your social media profiles for employment. They also conduct mock interviews with employers, allowing you to practice your skills in a safe environment. The team also organise networking events with local and national employers so you can practice your networking skills and increase your opportunities of graduate employment.

The focus on employability and the world of work also features in the modules you will take. Not only do you learn the technical skills needed to become an accountant, but you will also learn leadership skills, business management skills, people skills and digital skills. All these skills will increase your employability and they are imbedded into the modules you will study.
