Moving into University halls
Moving away from home and into University halls can be exciting but also be daunting and come with unexpected challenges. That’s why the Residential Life team at the University of Northampton are there to offer support and guidance to students when they need it most.
Moving into halls
When I first moved into my accommodation at the University, I quickly realised that sharing a space with another 11 people could sometimes lead to difficult situations, especially when it came to cleanliness. The different habits caused tension between flatmates and started to affect the atmosphere in the accommodation.

Support from Residential Life
That’s when Residential Life, a support team at UON whose job is to help students living in halls as well as supporting our wellbeing stepped in. Residential Life arranged a meeting with all of us, so we could openly talk about the issues. They made sure everyone was comfortable enough to share their concerns and together we agreed on a plan to not only keep the flat clean, but to respect everyone’s belongings. With their help, we not only resolved the dispute, but also, there was an improvement in communication amongst our flatmates.
My appreciation for the support at UON
What I appreciated most was knowing that the Residential Life team were there whenever we needed it.
They helped turn a very difficult situation into a positive outcome, so if you’re ever facing challenges, even if they have nothing to do with your flatmates, don’t hesitate to contact them.
