Hi I’m Tyra. A 20-year old Advertising & Digital Marketing student.
I love Marvel, musicals, travelling and fashion to name a few! I’m from Birmingham and moved to Northampton last year to start my degree. When I moved, I stayed in the St John’s Hall student accommodation; I love being in different settings so it didn’t take me long to adjust and make friends within the accommodation.
This year I moved into a house with my friends. I’d say it’s a pretty simple process and there’s lots of houses in Northampton for students to choose from. Whilst I was in Sixth form college I studied Sociology, Media Studies and Performing Arts. I’m quite a indecisive person however when it came to picking a degree Marketing felt like a natural step combining all three of my A Levels and BTEC. I chose to study here because of my course, I love all things media and thought a specialised course within marketing sector that focuses on the digital and social side.
One of the things I was worried about coming was the social life/night life in Northampton coming from a big city like Birmingham there’s a lot of stuff to do so it did take some adjusting. I think Northampton being a town means there’s more of a balance between night life and uni which works for people easily distracted (like me). In my experience as a young black woman studying there are many events and opportunities focused on catering towards African and Caribbean students not only ACS but clubbing events with Basement, Amapiano, Afro Beats, Soca and more. For me it was very important to be in a uni surrounded by people who understand me and be represented. As well as ACS there are many other societies to suit different people. I joined the women’s football society this year and it’s been a great way to meet people while doing a sport I love. Most sports societies also have social nights where they play games and go clubbing and also sober ones too!
