In my first year at UON, I became a student ambassador as well as a student influencer. In this blog I will be talking about how I found these roles and what it entails.

How I found out about the Student Ambassador role

During an applicant day I attended when I accepted my place at UON, there was a talk led by student ambassadors who spoke about how to apply to become a student ambassador, when the applications open and what opportunities you have. The talk really piqued my interest, so I spoke to an ambassador about it and she told me to keep an eye out for when the applications open in September. When the applications opened, I sent mine through which was a really simple and straightforward process.

Once the team received my application, they offered me an interview where I completed a variation of tasks, including putting up a poster and getting into groups to practice public speaking. During the interview, the student ambassador spoke about the role of a student influencer which also caught my interest. Not long after my interview, I received an email to say that I had been accepted as a student ambassador!

As a student ambassador, I have had the opportunity to support the events team with carrying out open days and informing the public about everything UON has to offer! I have also been able to take groups on campus tours to show them around Waterside Campus and the different buildings where you can study. This role has helped me with building my confidence and gaining skills such as communication and teamwork.

The Student Influencer Role

Once I found out about the student influencer role, I immediately sent an email to show my interest, which resulted in an online meeting to discuss the role further. I then began creating content about my experiences as a first year student at UON. I started creating various blogs and vlogs which were then uploaded to the UON website as well as across social media. I also had the opportunity to take part in a photoshoot with the images being used on the website and social media.

Being a student influencer is a great way to share your experiences and let your creative side flow when creating pieces of content!

As well as the skills you build whilst representing UON, you also get paid which is definitely a perk! It is also a great opportunity to add to your CV.
