Background of profession and specialisms
Ruth is a Specialist Physiotherapist and Practice Educator with over 28 years of NHS experience.
She has experience of working in various specialities including respiratory, critical care and post surgical rehabilitation. She has particular interests in helping people to manage long term respiratory conditions, preparing for or recovering from surgery and improving health through exercise.
Ruth has extensive experience in clinical leadership, having led multidisciplinary therapy teams for over a decade, and has been involved in the education and development of healthcare professionals and students for more than 20 years.
Passionate about the benefits of exercise and rehabilitation, she is committed to delivering evidence-based, person-centred care that helps individuals achieve their health and wellbeing goals.
Students James, Aidan, Glen & Kassé are the second group of students to complete project placement at the Health and Rehabilitation Centre in 2026 as part of the MSc Physiotherapy (Pre-registration) programme at the University of Northampton.
The MSc Physiotherapy programme is accredited by the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy (CSP) and is designed to prepare students for contemporary physiotherapy practice through innovative learning opportunities and real-world clinical experience.
During their placement, the students applied critical thinking, leadership and evidence-based practice skills to support the development of the Centre’s student-led services. They undertook market research with patients and service users to better understand local needs and inform service design.
As part of the placement, the team developed and delivered a pilot lower limb strengthening class. Feedback from participants was used to refine and enhance the programme, helping to ensure that services remain responsive, accessible and person-centred.
Their work has made a valuable contribution to the ongoing development of the Health and Rehabilitation Centre and demonstrates the important role students can play in service improvement and innovation.
