Staff Prizes and Awards
Congratulations to our staff on their achievements.
The STAAR awards are open to all teaching or professional services staff members, including lecturers, tutors, technicians, cleaners, library staff, and many more.
They are also a chance to recognise and thank student volunteers who run SU societies for their incredible work over the year, within the Union, University, and in our community.
The staff winners for 2025 are:

- Personal Academic Tutor of the Year: Candiece Spencer
- Professional Services Staff Member of the Year: Anne-Marie Langford
- Staff Innovation in Research: Dr Ed Johnston
- Inclusive Impact Award: Sarah Johnston
Three academics had the title of Professor – the highest in academia – conferred in recognition of their reputation in their professional area, discipline or subject:

Eleven academic were awarded with the title of Associate Professor to recognise their significant contributions and future commitments to developing, enhancing, and leading in learning and teaching, professional practice, and enterprise and research:

Brendon Skinner
Congratulations to Brendon Skinner, Course Leader for Sport Rehabilitation and Conditioning at the University of Northampton, who has successfully completed his training to award qualifications on behalf of the English and Welsh Football Association’s medical faculties.
Michael Maher
Demonstrating the transformative power of higher education, the Early Careers Researcher at University of Northampton, who struggled at A-levels, picked up an award for the Best Early Career Research Presentation from one of the country’s leading research authorities.
Early Childhood studies
An award ceremony – hosted by author Michael Rosen – celebrated excellence in Early Childhood Studies across Higher Education and practice, honouring outstanding students, educators, researchers, and advocates who are shaping the future of the Early Childhood sector.
UON’s Decade of Green
For ten consecutive years the University of Northampton has maintained the highest Green Accreditation from the Investors in the Environment (iiE) and is one of only seven organisations in the country to achieve the milestone.
