Education Studies BA (Hons)
View the courseAs I’ve lived in Northampton my whole life, it made sense for me to choose the University of Northampton and stay at home, so I was somewhere where I felt comfortable. Also, I had a child a few weeks before starting my course, so a support system was very important to me, as well as having support in place to help with my mental health. I thought that Education Studies at the University of Northampton would be helpful, as well as interesting. My career goal is to teach at secondary school level, in either mathematics, drama or music.
My studies will help my career and personal development when I graduate, as I’ve had the opportunity to understand the policies and political standings of an education system and learn about a range of needs for different types of students.
The skills and knowledge I’ve gained on my degree that will be most useful in my future career are how to be more organised and how to write in ‘standard’ English when creating formal documents and presentations. I’ve also learnt how to properly cite and reference and now have a good knowledge of the sort of research that’s seen as more reliable and better to use for forming an understanding of a subject.
The advice I’d give to undergraduates interested in this career path would be to be prepared for a different way of learning and creating your work, as it’s different to being at school.
My UON experience so far has been interesting, beneficial and enjoyable.
