I decided to study at the University of Northampton because I liked the structure of the course programme. It was also important to me that I could have a balance between studying and my extra-curricular activities, and I felt I’d be able to achieve that.
In the future, I’d potentially like to work in the energy sector, however there will be many industry options available to me once I graduate. I believe I’d be well suited to a team-based environment so plan to pursue a role with this in mind.
My course will help my career and personal development when I graduate as it’s taught me a lot about the how the world is shaped around business and why we are dependent on it for a viable economy. This includes learning about the workplace, as well as management and research skills – all of which will help me to become a more professional individual – as well as learning about global impacts such as climate change.
All the skills gained on my degree will have their own benefits to my future career, however the most valuable to me will be the skills I’ve gained in research and management, as their application to any workplace will be indispensable.
Alongside my studies, I currently participate in three extra-curricular areas: President of the Business Society, Course Representative for BA Business Management, and Student Ambassador. These roles will be extremely valuable to my career prospects as they all involve important skills that can’t necessarily be developed in a classroom or on the course, including teamwork, networking and communication.
I’m currently also involved in a volunteering project with the Lewis Foundation – a charity aimed at helping those suffering with cancer. The project aims to spread awareness of the Lewis Foundation by giving out free packs to people caring for someone suffering with cancer, as well as running a potential fundraiser to raise money for the charity.
The main piece of advice I would give to undergraduates interested in this career path would be to make sure you take advantage of all the extra-curricular and networking opportunities available to you.
How would I summarise my UON experience so far? Absolutely amazing.
