Changemaker Certificate

The Changemaker Certificate programme has been developed to support UON’s commitment to developing knowledgeable graduates, who are socially responsible, digitally proficient and highly employable global citizens – the Changemakers of the future.

The Changemaker Certificate pathway provides students with the opportunity to cultivate a Changemaker Mindset, developing the essential skills and attributes necessary for them to be a forward thinking, employable Changemaker graduate. Each student is able to create their own unique route, gaining experiences that align with their personal values, interests and desired career. This enables each student to develop a real understanding of how they relate and contribute to communities.

The Changemaker Certificate is every student’s opportunity to position themselves within the UON Changemaker Commitments and the United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Students will recognise that they have the perfect opportunity to contribute to local and global development while also gaining an understanding of how Changemaker attributes are highly valued by employers around the world.

At all levels, the Changemaker Certificate is aligned to Employability Plus, enabling students to connect Changemaker as a valuable element of their employability development. By completing the Certificate, they will be able to fully articulate and evidence themselves as a Changemaker, understanding how this, as a graduate outcome, is their tangible market differentiator.

  • At Level 1, students will be introduced to the world of Changemaker and gain an understanding of why establishing a Changemaker Mindset is relevant to their personal and career development.

  • Changemaker Certificate Level 2 is built around students gaining practical experience through work-related learning, working with the Changemaker Team to find an opportunity that suits their development goals. To complete this experience, students will follow one of two pathways, both of which can be connected to placements or projects within the curriculum.

    • Community Engagement – volunteering or paid work in the community, allowing students to contribute to an existing organisation that is creating positive impact in a community. This includes the Changemaker Internship Programme that offers short-term paid roles.
    • Changemaker Initiatives – developing and delivering projects, campaigns and ventures to create a positive social impact.
  • Changemaker Certificate Level 3 focuses on students articulating their Changemaker development through a presentation to a Changemaker Panel, giving them the opportunity to share their Changemaker Story.
