Occupational Therapy MSc Welcome Pack

Welcome to MSc Occupational Therapy (pre-registration) 2026.

This course prepares you to work as a Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) registered occupational therapist. During the first year you will develop your knowledge and skills within anatomy and physiology, occupational therapy theory, core occupational therapy skills, and research, finishing the year with a 10 week placement to apply and further the knowledge and skills gained.

As you move into the second year, you will further develop your knowledge and skills in research, leadership and occupational therapy, and will have a range of placements throughout the year. Whilst engaging in the learning you will also be developing your academic skills in essay writing, report writing and presentations and will be introduced to a range of services at the university that can help you to further develop these skills. We access a range of teaching and learning strategies to enable you to develop throughout your programme, these include guided pre-learning, workshops, group work, guest speakers, practical skills sessions and placements.

During the course, there will be opportunities for interprofessional education, including modules with the BSc Occupational Therapy students and MSc Physiotherapy (pre-registration) students.

Welcome and Induction sessions

Equipment

You will be provided with a uniform (three tops and three pairs of trousers). Additional uniform items can be purchased at cost.  You will need to purchase flat black shoes, with a closed in toe and heel.

For some placement settings, you will be required to have a metal tape measure.

You are also required to complete a recognised (level two) food hygiene course You will be able to complete this course online at an approximate cost of £20.  You can complete this before starting the programme, please ensure you keep the certificate of the course as proof.
