Integrated Foundation Year Welcome Pack

Welcome to Integrated Foundation Year 2023.

Welcome to The University of Northampton and to The Integrated Foundation Year. As a team, we are all dedicated to offering you the very best student experience and supporting you on your journey, not just in your academic studies but also beyond.

The Integrated Foundation Year is a fantastic way of starting your degree level studies. You will spend the year learning more about university level study, gaining really useful skills and experience and preparing yourself for independent life. You will gain more self-confidence, as well as a better understanding of the degree that you are planning to study. Your tutors are experts at learning how to learn as well as experts in their own subjects.

We look forward to meeting you during your welcome activities and over the course of your studies and are delighted that you are joining us and wish you the very best for an enjoyable and successful academic journey.

Integrated Foundation Year leadership team

The Integrated Foundation Year is made up of four distinct subject areas, each with a team leader:

Team Leader, Arts Group
Team Leader, Science and Health Group
Team Leader, Business, Marketing and Management Group
Team Leader, Development, Education & Law Group

Enhancing skills, building networks and engaging in the wider University community

In your Integrated Foundation year, we will be working closely with the Student Futures team to explore social & environmental problems so that you can gain experience in how they are tackled to make the world a better place. We believe that this also improves your profile when it comes to getting jobs. Some activities will happen in class, but we will also encourage you start the Employability Award outside the class.

Students’ Union

The Students’ Union (SU) is a registered charity and based in The Engine Shed on the Waterside Campus. The Students’ Union is led by students, underpinned by volunteers and staff, seeking to ensure that your time at the university is the best it can possibly be; that it is rewarding, fulfilling, and memorable.

All students automatically become members of the Students’ Union for free, a vibrant diverse global community. As a member, you are entitled to all of their services and opportunities, including sports, societies, volunteering, welfare, advice, and support; representation, retail outlets, and student club nights.

Looking to volunteer?

The SU offers lots of volunteering opportunities for all student groups. Nominate yourself to be a Course Representative who gather feedback from their cohort and meet with staff to discuss how to make the student experience even better.

Our course reps give you the chance to shape your own education, we also have free societies and sports to help you make friends and build a real community here at the University of Northampton.

To nominate yourself to become a Course Rep please speak to your lecturer who can recruit you.

For more information about Welcome Events and the range of services we offer head to the SU website.

Welcome and Induction sessions

We will be hosting an online session before term starts to help you answer any questions you might have about your course and your time at university.

  • Monday 4 September

This session will be an opportunity for you to meet your programme leader and your peers. There are likely to be questions that you will want to ask and this is your opportunity to do so in an informal setting.

We understand that some of you will be working so please do not worry if you can’t attend, there will be plenty of opportunity during Welcome Week for questions too.

Ideally put your cameras on so we can see you and you can see each other
