Financial and Investment Analysis MSc Welcome Pack
Welcome to MSc Financial and Investment Analysis – September 2026.
Welcome to the MSc Financial and Investment Analysis at the University of Northampton. We’re delighted that you’re joining us this year, and we look forward to supporting you as you begin your postgraduate journey.
This course is designed to help you develop into a specialist investment professional, with the knowledge and skills needed for roles in investment banking, risk management, fund management and related areas. Throughout the course, you’ll build both theoretical understanding and practical analytical skills. You’ll study key areas such as investment analysis, equity investments, fixed income, derivatives, quantitative methods, corporate finance, financial reporting, ethical and professional standards, and alternative investments.
You can expect a course that combines academic learning with practical application. You’ll use real-world financial tools and resources, including Bloomberg terminals and financial databases, to analyse markets, evaluate investment opportunities and solve simulated financial problems. You’ll be assessed through a combination of reports, case studies, time-constrained tests, examinations and your dissertation.
In your first week, you’ll be introduced to the course team, your modules and the expectations of postgraduate study. You’re also likely to meet your Personal Academic Tutor (PAT), who will support your academic development and help you settle into university life. There may also be opportunities to attend networking activities with investment professionals in the UK, helping you connect your studies with the wider finance and investment industry.
We hope you make the most of the course, engage fully with the learning opportunities available and begin building the professional confidence needed for your future career.

Enhancing skills, building networks and engaging in the wider University community
This year we will collaborate with Coventry University to organise another “Route to Finance” event – sponsored by the Charted Institute of Securities and Investment (CISI) – on Wed 22 October at Coventry University.
The event will be a great opportunity for our students of Finance, Banking, and Investment to meet and network with some industry professionals – including former graduates – who share their insights and experiences on how to get into their finance careers and build success in investment banking and investment management.
