Artificial Intelligence and Data Science BSc Welcome Pack

Welcome to Artificial Intelligence and Data Science BSc – September 2026.

A warm welcome to the Artificial Intelligence and Data Science course at the University of Northampton!

Artificial intelligence now shapes how work gets done across public health, manufacturing, logistics, and plenty of other fields. Over your time with us, you’ll learn to build it, work with it, and apply it to problems that matter beyond the classroom. The course centres on practical skills in research, design, and programming, which you’ll develop both on your own and alongside your fellow students. Our AI lab is open around the clock, so it’s there whenever you need it. You’ll also join the Amazon Web Services (AWS) Academy, which gives you access to accredited cloud computing courses. These can lead to industry-recognised certifications and set you up for a strong career in the cloud sector.

We think you’ll do well here, and we’re looking forward to working with you.

All the best for the year ahead,

Welcome and Induction Sessions

In September, there will be subject and programme Welcome Sessions for new students to meet the course team and students from senior years.

More details of the Welcome Session will be posted on the course site.

Each student is allocated to a Personal Tutor (PT). You will have the opportunity to schedule a 1-to-1 meeting with your PT in this first week. The PT meeting would be a good opportunity for you to discuss any questions about personalised support.

Equipment

You will have access to several on-site computer labs, including a state-of-the-art 24/7 AI Lab. Whilst it is possible to complete assignments using only the university facilities, in reality, much of your practical study and portfolio development will need to be done outside of timetabled sessions. We recommend all students have access to an up-to-date Windows PC or Mac at home. A Windows PC with an Nvidia graphics card is recommended, but not mandatory.

Enhancing skills, building networks and engaging in the wider University community

You are welcome to join the UON AI and Robotics Society, which is managed by students from the AI and Data Science course. https://northamptonunion.com/societies/activity/173/artificial-intelligence
