Artificial Intelligence and Data Science BSc Welcome Pack

Welcome to Artificial Intelligence and Data Science BSc 2023.

It is my pleasure to extend a warm welcome to you all to the Artificial Intelligence and Data Science programme at the University of Northampton.

Artificial intelligence is driving a new era of innovation in public health, manufacturing, transportation, and many other areas. Our programme will equip you with the knowledge and practical skills required to establish your career. They can aid many career paths, such as a machine learning software engineer, solution architect, AI project manager or research scientist. You will learn the fundamentals and applications of data science and machine learning progressively over the course period.

The programme is supported by a core team of Professors, Lecturers, Classroom Assistants, Technician Demonstrators, PhD researchers and External Advisors. We share a passion for AI and data science teaching and research while each of us focuses on our own specialities.

Our dedicated AI lab provides students with specialised hardware and software platforms to help them reach their full potential and stand out from the crowd. Students are supported to actively develop and deploy applied AI solutions individually and as part of a team. We are also part of the Amazon Web Services (AWS) Academy, delivering accredited cloud computing courses to prepare students for industry-recognised certifications and the most in-demand careers in the cloud industry. We’re confident that you will secure a graduate position or continue your studies once you graduate and complete one of our awards.

Good luck and enjoy your AI journey!

Welcome and Induction Sessions

There will be welcome sessions for new students to meet the AI and Data Science programme team and ask general questions about their course and study here at UON.

Each student is allocated to a Personal Academic Tutor (PAT). You will have the opportunity to schedule a 1-to-1 meeting with your PT in this first week. The PT meeting would be a good opportunity for you to discuss any questions you may have about personalised support.

  • More information will be published on the designated module and programme NILE site.

Equipment

Your module teaching will take place in up-to-date Windows PC based computer labs including a dedicated AI Lab. Whilst it is possible to complete assignments using only the university facilities, in reality much of your practical study and portfolio development will need to be done outside of timetabled sessions.

We recommend all students have access to an up-to-date PC or MAC at home. PC with a Nvidia graphics card is recommended but not mandatory.
