Northampton Historical Association Programme 2025-26

28.01.2026Announcing the Northampton Historical Association Programme of talks in 2025-26.

The Northampton branch of the Historical Association is run by the University of Northampton, and we have joined forces with the Leicester branch to provide a combined programme. The joint talks will be online but we are also keen to hear from local schools who would like to host an event. All talks are free to attend and everyone is welcome.
Most talks are online, and take place the second Tuesday of the month at 6pm.
- 9 September 2025 – Andy Chapman (Northamptonshire Archaeological Society), ‘Excavations at St James’s Abbey Northampton’.
- 14 October 2025 – Professor Peter Ackers (Loughborough University), ‘Trade Unions & the British Industrial Relations Crisis: Writing the Biography of Hugh Clegg’.
- 18 November 2025 – Bill Lindsay, ‘Caroline Chisholm: Northampton’s Victorian Humanitarian’.
- January (date TBC) – Great Debate Heats in Northampton and Leicester.
- 10 February 2026 – Prof Mark Rothery (Northampton) and Dr Alison Carrol (Brunel), ‘“A Source of the Greatest Anxiety”: Visions of a Channel Tunnel between England and France in the Late Nineteenth Century’. Book on Eventbrite.
- 17 March 2026 – Nathen Amin, ‘The Early Tudors’. Book on Eventbrite.
- April 2026 – No meeting.
- 12 May 2026 – Gillian Williamson, ‘John London: A Black Georgian businessman, householder and voter.’ Book on Eventbrite.
