A roundup of recent media coverage about the University, or staff and students.

Today (Thursday 21 August) is GCSE Results Day and offering their advice to students who might not have achieved their expected grades are Pro Vice Chancellor of Education and Student Experience Alice Wilby and the Students’ Union’s Welfare Officer Sarah Johnston. Their comments are reported by the Northamptonshire Telegraph and the Chronicle & Echo.

BBC Northamptonshire’s roving reporter James Grant visited Waterside on Level 3 Exam Results Day, to talk with staff and student Carol Goode about what Clearing is. Listen again – starts at 1h23m & 2h20m) with Vice Chancellor Professor Anne-Marie Kilday, 1hrs and 54mins is student Carol and, at 2hrs and 54mins, Senior Lecturer in Podiatry Connor Ratcliffe.

Local and regional media outlets were in colleges and schools as students opened their results envelopes, including these students who will come to the University in September:

  • Twins Alicia and Sienna from Lord Grey Academy in Milton Keynes will study Professional Policing and were two of the students profiled by BBC Look East (link has expired).
  • A student from All Saints Academy, Dunstable called from Angel will join us in September to study Psychology, as reported by Luton News.
  • Chloe Burbidge, from Melksham Oak School will study Sociology and is the first in her family to go to university. Her story is one of those featured in The Melksham Independent News.
  • Vanessa Tuatil from The Grange Schools, Bushey will start her Law degree in September, as reported by The Watford Observer.
  • Two students from Weavers Academy also celebrated their results, as reported by the Northamptonshire Telegraph. Thea Amodio will study Interior Architecture & Spatial Design and Wiktor Lykowski will read for Accounting & Finance.
  • Jake Gambill from Weston Favell Academy will study Sport & Exercise Science, as reported by the Northamptonshire Telegraph.
  • Vaishvi Brahmbhatt will be coming to UON to study Business next month, as reported by the Northampton Chronicle & Echo.
  • Emily Knighton from Manor School will study Occupational Therapy, as reported by the Northamptonshire Telegraph.

David Nicholls, Programme Leader for Games Design, is quoted in a Chronicle & Echo article about a competition for games developers from across England to enter their games and prototypes into Northampton Film Festival 2026.

A Schools Week article about plans for new armed forces cadet units, cites research from the University that found participation in cadets was associated with improved school attendance, behaviour and attainment.
