It was a busy day for the University of Northampton’s (UON) Clearing team yesterday, as hundreds of prospective students got in touch following the release of their Level 3 exam results.
Clearing is an annual opportunity for people looking to go to university who may not have achieved the grades they were hoping for to find a place on a degree course. It can also be used by those making a late application, or by students who have decided they would prefer to study a different course or at a different university.
Clearing also gives universities the opportunity to offer places on courses with availability ahead of the start of the new academic year.
Although Clearing runs from July through to October, Level 3 Exam Results Day – covering A Levels, T Levels, BTECs and other qualifications – is traditionally the busiest point of the Clearing period. This year’s results day took place on Thursday 13 August.
The figures so far include:
- 940 calls to the Clearing Helpline were answered on Thursday alone, with the total continuing to rise as the helpline remains open today until 7pm, and Saturday and Sunday (9am–4pm), and then from 9am–5pm until Friday 16 October.
- 1,448 Clearing applications have been completed since 2 July.
- 659 Clearing offers have been made since 2 July.
- 350+ academics and professional services colleagues have been supporting prospective students and helping them complete Clearing applications since 2 July.
Dawn Mains, Interim Academic Registrar (Admissions), said: “Level 3 Exam Results Day is always one of the busiest dates in the University calendar, and this year has been no exception.
“While many students will have opened their results to the news they were hoping for and can now look forward to starting their chosen university course, others may find themselves needing to consider their options.
“That’s where Clearing can help. Our team is here to provide advice, answer questions and help prospective students understand what opportunities are available to them – whether they didn’t quite achieve the grades they were hoping for, have changed their mind about their course or university, or are making a late application.
“For anyone who is still considering their options, it’s not too late to get in touch. We’ll be here Saturday and Sunday, and our Clearing team will continue to be available until Friday 17 October. We’ll also be welcoming prospective students to our Open Day on Saturday 15 August.”
