Ad students wow the professionals in social media takeover

Date 14.03.2019

Advertising students have become Digital Ambassadors after staging a successful week-long takeover of the university’s social media channels.

The University of Northampton’s marketing department handed over the social media reins to final year BA Advertising and Digital Marketing students in January – giving them hands-on digital advertising experience.

In a jam packed week of content – the students gave followers a glimpse of an average student day and held a #FoodChallenge – where they went on the hunt for the healthiest, wackiest and best value food on campus.

Students held a discussion with alumni now working in Marketing at AVON and a live update feed of the varsity e-sports battle between Derby and Northampton.

You can see a wrap-up of what the students got up to on Takeover Week via the University’s Facebook page.

The university have since offered three students’ roles as Digital Ambassadors after impressing the marketing team with their creativity, eye for content and composure in front of camera.

Tessa Williams, Assistant Director of Social Media, Digital Content & Engagement at the University of Northampton, said: “The students every year astound us with their technical skills and ideas, and this year was no exception. We try and give students insight into what a working life in a marketing office is like… and in return they give us loads of creative inspiration and energy.”

Millie Whomes, student and Digital Ambassador, said: “The student takeover week really provided me with an insight into what the industry is like, we all had great fun creating content too. Being given the opportunity to be a digital ambassador has also given me a platform to utilise the skills we learnt over the week. The experiences I’ve had will definitely help me in future roles, so I’m glad I had the opportunity to do it.”
