Important things to do before your course starts

We understand that as an international student it can be a daunting experience to come and study in another country, so we have put together this list of important things to do before your course starts.

If you have any queries, please don’t hesitate to contact the Immigration Compliance Services team.

  1. Arrange accommodation. Please see our Accommodation pages for guidance. If you have not made any arrangements for accommodation (either with us or elsewhere), you must NOT travel until you have done so.
    • If you are living in university halls, we recommend that you book a bedding pack in advance so that this will be available to you when you arrive and will save you from needing to go to the shops straight away. We really recommend this option if you are arriving late and need to go to sleep or rest when you arrive. The bedding pack will need to be booked in advanced.
  2. Book your travel from the airport. We can offer an airport pick-up service during welcome weekend direct to University campus. We also offer a 20% National Express discount. Other options include trains and taxis and you can see full information on our Travelling to Northampton page.
  3. Join our Unibuddy New Students Community Group to meet your peers and other students arriving in September.
  4. Enrol online for your course (details will be emailed to you so keep checking your inbox).
  5. Complete our Arrival and Enrolment booking form.
  6. Arrange your travel insurance and check your luggage allowance.
  7. Check what you must declare at customs when you enter the UK.
  8. Research UK living costs to plan a budget and bring enough cash to cover your first few days in the UK.
  9. Engage with your course welcome pack to get important induction information and links to welcome sessions.
  10. Pack the following documents in your hand luggage for your journey:
    • a valid passport
    • decision letter
    • Your E Visa share code starting with an S (Student Visa students only)
    • a valid visa or UK Entry Clearance
    • boarding pass, luggage tag and/or stamp in your passport
    • CAS Letter (this can be printed or you save this on your phone as confirmation)
    • sponsorship letter (if applicable)
    • your original qualification documents that are stated on your CAS (for enrolment)
