Staff Profile

  • Trained as a Registered Learning Disability Nurse (Level 2) at Princess Marina Hospital Sir Gordon Roberts School of Nursing 1983 – 1985.

    Gained BSc (Hons) Registered Learning Disability Nurse from Northampton University in 1997.

    Hannah’s working career over 33 years has involved various roles within the NHS and Private Voluntary and Independent sector working with adults, children, and their families in a variety of settings.

    Hannah has worked as a Qualified Nurse within hospital settings for people with a range of Learning Disabilities and PMLD, a Ward Manager within medium secure forensic Brain Injury and Learning Disability settings and as a Registered Manager in a Community setting for people with PMLD and a range of health-related co-morbidities.

    Accomplishments: In her service within medium secure services, Hannah actively promoted and supported staff to work alongside therapy staff to reduce incidents of aggression, restraint, and seclusion. This was through talking therapies, person centered packages including physical resources to reduce anxiety and aggression and supporting staff to develop their de-escalation communication and strategies.

    Hannah joined the University of Northampton in 2016 to start a new phase in my career by developing the learning disability nurses of the future.

    • Pre-Registration Nursing Practice module 1st Year LD Lead.
    • Teaching and Marking on Nursing RTP Module.
    • Academic Assessor for clinical nursing placements
    • Personal Academic tutor for 2nd year LD nursing students
    • Supervisor for Final Project students.
    • PVI Lead for selected LD Specific placements (Long Arm assessor when required)

    Hannah’s professional interests:

    • Developing the ability of the future LD nurse to apply focused, Person Centered Communication with people with LD
