Alex is an ambitious early-career academic, with a passion for helping young designers grow.
Having spent close to a decade in the commercial product and interior design sectors, Alex elected to leave industry and pursue a career in academia, fulfilling a long-held passion for design thinking.
A graduate of Northumbria University’s Design for Industry program, Alex, completed an MA in History of Design and Material Culture at the Royal College of Art with the V&A Museum in 2022 before joining University of Northampton.
Teaching on both Product Design and Interior Architecture and Spatial Design (IASD), Alex embraces an engaging, practical approach to teaching through playful studio exercises, bolstered by academically rigorous research. His style of “play-ducation” engages students in active learning intended to ensure they develop and internalise a capability and love for design thinking.
An HEA Associate Fellow (AFHEA), and Mental Health First Aider (MHFA England), Alex is committed to developing and improving his learning and teaching in order to best support all of his students, offering care, compassion and a love of design.
Alex is currently pursuing PhD studies, with expansive research interests that look to understand how society interacts with notions of craft and design in a world suffused with technologies such as AI.
