The Events Management and Business Entrepreneurship course offers modules which explore the planning, delivery and management of exhibitions, conferences, sporting events, product launches, festivals, and charitable fundraising events. The programme is delivered around a variety of core subjects and option choices. The course is flexible and you can tailor the modules around your specific interests. In years two and three you can choose to specialise your studies while being fully supported by our experienced academic team.

We will support you to achieve your career and study ambitions, which is why if you complete our Employability Plus Gold programme or Changemaker Gold certificate alongside your studies and if you haven’t secured full-time employment 12 months after graduating* we will secure a three – six month paid internship for you, or support you into postgraduate study.

Optional Work Placement Year

You are encouraged to undertake a year-long placement in between Stages Two and Three of study. If you meet the entry criteria, and choose to take up a placement year you will find it an invaluable experience that helps you to apply your learning in your final year and prepares you for your career. Whilst on your Optional Work Placement Year you will study a 40 credit module ‘The Placement Year Experience – Organisations in Context’. We offer a lot of support in helping you to find a placement, which can be in the UK or overseas.

Course Details

The programme has been structured to provide you with experiential learning, this creates a multitude of opportunities to engage in work placements, project work and to network with successful events businesses which ultimately will enhance your future employability. You will go on to plan and deliver an event for a real client and have the opportunity to undertake an optional placement in industry. You will be able to utilise our very own Enterprise Club on campus. The programme is built around an entrepreneurial stream that runs through the three stages of the course. You will gain knowledge of business start-up, business growth and development, managing opportunities, starting an online business and developing strategy.

Career Opportunities

The ethos of the course encourages a creative ‘can do’ attitude welcomed by organisations of any size. Some students go on to start up their own businesses soon after graduating, whilst many go into industry. You will find employment across many sectors including film, music and entertainment, trade shows as well as conferences, networking and social events, PR and marketing and tourism and hotels. A significant opportunity for graduates is to become self-employed within the events sector.

Students graduating from this Joint Honours programme can choose to progress onto a full-time, part-time or distance learning postgraduate programme. This will enable you to focus your studies in a specialist area or gain a general management qualification such as the MBA.

Course Content

You will study the events industry, the logistics behind an event and how marketing communications plays its part. You will explore social enterprise and ways in which entrepreneurial opportunities can be identified and developed and will start to learn some of the techniques and skills required to be successful in a business environment.

If you choose to study a Joint Honours degree at the University of Northampton you can select a programme that suits your interests and strengths. This option opens up a host of possibilities to you, offering a wide range of opportunities for careers and further study at your fingertips. In the Joint Honours programme, you will select two subjects as joint for stage one. You may continue with equal emphasis on two subjects as a joint degree in stages two and three, or switch to a major or minor split. The degree title is derived from the two subjects.
